I love my Echo!!!!  I have one at work, one in my kitchen and a Dot (smaller one) in my bedroom.

I actually use her for productivity!  For real!  It is so easy to ask her how to spell something, set a timer or an alarm.  She has a to-do list and a grocery list.  I ask her the weather before I dress for the day.  I play songs while I'm getting ready for work.  The list is endless.

As far as the shopping list, you just tell her to add whatever on your list.  When you get to the store the list is on your app on your phone.  You can also go to alexa.amazon.com and print out your shopping  list if you want it on paper.Same with your "to do" list.

@mima, what is the difference between the Dot and the Echo?  I've been looking at them on Amazon, and I'm not sure other than size what the difference is.  TIA!

@Marp  Thanks for your thoughts and insight. I certainly understand where you are coming from on this; you are just far more trusting than I am. I do, in fact, keep a small cardboard disc over the camera on my computer when it is not being used because I saw a story on the news that people could use it to see inside your home. Everyone says/believes things are safe & secure….until. Target, along with many other companies always assured people their information was safe & secure…until….it wasn’t. Nothing is perfect and those few that are determined to hack something will likely succeed, but I am just cautious about trusting every new thing that comes along if it doesn’t feel right to me. Time will tell, but I can live without ECHO and be happy. Not saying others should pass on it, just expressing my choice.

Snarky responders need not reply. Move along and share your views elsewhere.

Btw, I paid $97 for mine and the same at Christmas (when it was on special).  We are very impressed with speaker quality.

That was for prime members only and you had to have an invite.  I got one of mine at that price too.  They won't probably ever be that price again (new).  It was a steal.

Re: Amazon Echo TSV 5/22

@Ainhisg The Echo has really great speakers.  The dot only has a speaker like what is on your cell phone or clock radio.  Not real loud and not great quality.  It is fine for our bedroom and plenty loud to use as an alarm or music, but not near the quality of the Echo.  You can hook the dot up to speakers though and make it sound great.  I haven't did that since it is perfect like it is for our bedroom.  The features other than the speakers are the same.  You don't have to have an echo to use the Dot either.

Perfect!  Just what I needed to know!  Thank you!  I am going to watch for the Echo to go on sale at Amazon.  Not saying it will...but maybe toward Christmas, it might.

I wanted to add that my Echos sync.  That is the cool part.  If I add things on my grocery list from home and work, they go on the same list.  If I'm in the bedroom and I add shampoo, it goes on the same master list no matter where I'm at.

@Havarti your "until" is spot on.  One has to always remember that if it is digital it is vulnerable.  Digital technology is wonder when it works the way it is intended.  When it doesn't well, you can fill in the blank with whatever is appropriate for you lol.

BTW, covering the webcam is a great idea but so is deactiving the microphone when you aren''t using it.

Obviously I have an Echo and while I enjoy the convenience I under utilize it and sometimes wonder why I bothered.  The sound quality of the speakers for listening to music though makes it worthwhile for me to have.

What is good for the goose today will also be good for the gander tomorrow.

I wanted to know how to activate it so I went to Amazon.  All I could find was that I need a WiFi (which I have) and a smart phone which I don't have.

Why can't it get activated from the computer?

It can be activated from phone, tablet or computer.
