So I'm watching Complications and the commercial for the Amazon Echo comes on. The guy says Alexa and asks what's new? My Alexa heard him and starts giving me a news report! She scared the heck out of me (not the first the first time)!

LOL!  That would have startled me, too.  That's a little creepy, like when a recorded call "talks" to my voice mail.

The same thing happened to me!  Only during the commercial someone asked Alexa to play some kind of music. I then said Alexa stop. It wouldn't stop. I had to get up and turn Alexa off. They need to call it something else during those commercials!

I wonder if anyone has contacted Amazon about this?  I can just visualize Bezos with his tech folks having some giggles over it.

I just emailed Amazon and asked them to change the name in the commercials from Alexa to something else. In the meantime, when that commercial comes on I can't hit the mute button fast enough.

I'd predicted this would happen quite a while back. It's hard to advertise a product like Echo without showing it in action, but anyone with an Echo will have their Echo responding to the commercial. I just hope they don't show how you can order stuff through an Echo! We could all end up with unwanted packages arriving.

I had my echo come on during big brother either on sunday or wednesday I don't remember.  the commerical came on I left and came back and she was playing prime music.   It doesn't bother me.

I DVR'd Under The Dome and the commercial was on. Luckily I was fast forwarding so it didn't matter to Alexa. I do have to say it is a little unsettling for her to come on when you are alone in the house!

Can someone please refresh my memory?  I recently had to unplug my Echo, and when I plugged it back in Alexa was gone.  It still works as a speaker but I miss Alexa.  What magic do I perform to awaken her?

I'm guessing that you've hit the microphone button on top disabling the microphones, so Alexa is now deaf. Pressing it again should restore things. If that doesn't work then try unplugging her again, leaving her unplugged for a couple of minutes.
