I want to install an adware remover but am leary of the free downloads online. Has anyone actually done this without downloading unwanted viruses, etc.? Which one(s) do you find work well?

The following work well for me and they are free:
Malwarebytes--

Spybot:

Make sure you get the free versions and be careful when installing that you don't sign up by accident for any ""free trials"" of the paid version.

I have had good luck with Malwarebytes, too.

I too recommend Malwarebytes.

I have both Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware on all of my Windows computers. I have had the Pro versions (with lifetime subscriptions) of both of them for years. I let Malwarebytes run real-time, and I use SAS as an on-demand scanner. Another good anti-malware program that is free is WinPatrol. That's another one that I have on all of my computers (I bought the premium version to support the company).
