Has anyone received their new Samsung J7 Crown Tracfone? I cannot seem to get rid of the google ads - even after trying everything I find on by googling. Seems that google ads cannot be completely stopped. I have installed Adblock Plus and I still get them. Very frustrated.

Sometimes that's the price you pay for getting a lower price on a device. It happened to me when I bought an Amazon Fire tablet from HSN. I paid $15 to remove the ads and I'm glad I did.

What did you buy? Or are you talking about Amazon ads? These ads are not responding to any of the blocking settings I've made.

@LexaMom @glb613 I have been using this phone for the past couple of weeks now (purchased on HSN) and am not having any popup Google ads or any ads at all. I've been using Tracfones for many years now and find them to be just as high quality as any other Samsung phone sold by the "other" companies. On a past phone I had to do a complete factory reinstall because Google ads kept popping up. This was NOT the phone's fault but my own fault because of an app I had downloaded and installed.

Yes you are right.. I probably did download something, but Google has sure taken over a lot of Oreo 8. There is a whole section under Settings to deal with Google ads, and the settings provide the ability to opt out of interest-based ads but they don't give you a way to completely stop all ads.

Just an fyi. Going unnoticed to many, google and fb are pretty much contoling most of the media, not just here, but around the world. If they can add to the hundreds of billions?
I worked for Western Electric, which was part of Ma Bell for many years. Then judge greene decided Ma was a "monopoly", and split her up. For me it had financial consequences, I retired, after 33 years, a pay grade lower than when I started, so did thousands of others.
But google and fb, name me just 1 of their competitors in that area of technology, and anywhere in the world. If you use any smart phone, for anything over the internet, they know everything about you, even this writing about their ads.
THE END

WOW ! I'm still on a 3 G Tracfone and hope they don't discover that I have it or they will take it away from me and send me one (5G) like my sister has they took her basic one away from her and this new one isn't exactly a Smartphone, but, it's more then she wants.
Us oldies don't want maps, weather, and useless information. Hers freezes up on her all the time at critical times and she has to run into the walmart phone store and have them to put it to rights.
We don't even turn ours on unless we're on vacation, ordering a pizza, or calling home to check on the landline messages. Rest of the time it's turned off I have 5500 minutes. LOL

Interesting.. I worked at Western Electric in Lisle Illinois and remember the exact time when they divested the Telco's. We all thought they were going to divest Western Electric. I moved around after that - ended up at USWest/Qwest/CenturyLink until 5 years ago when I retired with 38 years service.
I guess its been awhile since I updated an Android version but it sure feels like Oreo 8 made a big jump as a Google platform. FYI - I was a software developer.

I don't know how old you are but, most of my friends and family use all of those functions. That includes me. You're only as old as you feel or act. I like technology and use it everyday.

@glb613 I'm a retired electronics technician, and I have an old flip phone from Tracfone "just in case" for emergencies.
I've spent my working life dealing with gadgets, and I enjoyed doing it. But, I don't want or need another computer with a super small screen. I also didn't buy a larger TV so I can pay to watch a show or movie on a 6" screen. That just doesn't make sense to me.
I putter around on a full size computer a lot, but I don't need a hand-held one. The hundreds of dollars for a gadget I can keep in my pocket is of no use to me. I can use that money for something more useful to me.
My sister, who by the way, doesn't use a computer at all, uses every feature on a smartphone constantly. She's afraid of the computer they have. It all depends on what you want to use and why.
I see people driving down the road with a phone up to their ear. More than once, I have been stopped at a stop sign and someone talking on their phone has turned a corner too short and suddenly stopped when they were nose to nose with my car. That phone should not have been in use.
Too many people seem to think they have to be on their phone around the clock. Thay aren't paying attention to what it going on around them.
There are pluses and minuses about smartphones. I don't think there is a "got to have one" in my life, but in the lives of others there is. A phone some computer geek can turn on from a remote location isn't something I want. But, if other's want it, that's fine. Options aren't a bad thing.
