Adobe Flash

I have a new lap top and I can't download Adobe Flash. I go through the steps and it said the download was completed successfully, but when I go to open a video it tells me I have to download Adobe. What is the problem and how do I correct it? Would it have somehing to do with the transfer from the old computer? My computer savy son hooked it up. I know very little about computers.
