Has anyone done this? And if so, did it turn out well? I'm in the process of buying a new computer. My current desktop computer is a Dell, still running Windows XP. I'm considering migrating to an iMac, but am concerned about successfully migrating my PC stuff to a Mac. (Have mercy on me, please, as I'm not a techie. I am, however, using a consultant for the actual installation). Thank you!

You can not move the program directly, you will have to either download it from the website or your disks, programs work differently than files

@I am still oxox I do understand that I would have to buy Office for a Mac, but even doing that, from a little reasearch I've done, it doesn't seem to work very well for some. I was looking for the opinion of "friends" here on the forums, (such as you!).

I think if I remember correctly when I switched to IMac I bought the program for windows at that time because spouse needed Excel & Word programs. I think it was $100.
I didnt need to transfer files files but I recall the Apple genius could not help me with download because Apple didn't support 3rd party programs (if I recall correctly).
Thankfully I didn't have any issues but now I get these messages "system needs upgrading" I don't need it anymore.

@I am still oxox. I do have number of Word and Excel files I'd want to move to a Mac, if I go that route, as well as all My Picture files. I love the idea of going with an iMac, since i love my MacBook Pro. Just a bit concerned about the migration from my old Dell with the Office files to a new iMac. Such a dilemma for me!!!!!!!!!!!
(Thanks for the responses, folks.)

Apple has its own "office" programs. Pages, Numbers and Keynote are the most common. Your Microsoft Office won't work on a Mac.

@glb613 They sell Microsoft Office for Mac (even at the Apple Store), but most of the reviews I've read indicate that it's somewhat problematic. Thanks for responding.

You didn't indicate in your original post anything about installing Office for Mac. Your title is "Adding Microsoft Office 2016 to an iMac" which you can't do.
The programs Pages and Numbers will open and read documents/spreadsheets created in Office. The main problem is the fonts or formatting used isn't always compatible. I've solved the problem with documents that don't look right I get via e-mail. I forward the e-mail to my Hotmail account and open them there. Hotmail uses on online version of Word to open documents. After it's open, I print it or save it on my Mac.
