Big Sister wrote:Hello everyone and thank you for your help in teaching me how to text by dictating a message. I just tried it, found the icon for microphone and it works beautifully. I tested it and, of course, I forgot to punctuate, so I will not forget to do that next time. It is so easy to do, isn't it? I learned something new today and I have all of you to thank.
I love these forums; I have learned a lot because of all of you willing to help us.
I'm sure glad you are enjoying that. I know I am. I don't do tiny typing, only full keyboard typing.
I was shocked that my husband told me about it because he can barely program a VCR still. But he has had a smartphone for a long time now and this is my first one. I definitely like it better than the stupidphones I had for decades.
But I still have to learn some more stuff. Still having trouble sending an email from it. I will dictate it out and it all looks fine, then hit send and it just goes into permanent 'sending' status and finally ends up in the 'outbox' and, of course, not sent. Can't seem to figure this one out.

@chickenbutt, when I've experienced what you describe I see my WiFi or cell signal (or both) is not strong at the moment. Sometimes there're too many devices on the WiFi signal at the same time. But usually it's my cell signal.
I have 'sent' emails and found out a week later it never went out. So now I eyeball my cell and WiFi signal strength before hitting 'send'.

Intersting I just got back here and saw your response.
I figured it out! I was so pleased to get this out of the way. The server settings for outgoing were not correct. I had gone onto the Charter page (my ISP) for some more info and got the outgoing (SMTP) settings. I saw that the ones on the phone were wrong, so I corrected them, and now it works. yay!
Thanks for that additional information, though. Something to look out for. I'm home 99% of the time so much of it I have spent with the phone on my home network. I tried both that and the Sprint network internet on the phone so I learned it wasn't either of those.
Since I'm new to smartphones I don't even know how safe their internet is vs my home network, which I know to be tight. ![]()

@chickenbutt, lol! Well, I guess the answer is first make sure your settings are correct...
In "Top 10 Cities with worst cell reception in U.S."
I'm in number 7.
So I know in which rooms the cell and WiFi signals are strongest/weakest; which direction to face; how high to hold phone to get best signal when I tap send.

I know, right? Usually, when I've set something up with my email addresses the device knew the incoming and outgoing settings, at least in the last 10 years. Back when you had to do the whole POP3 mail thing, you had to put them in yourself, but not so much anymore. That's what I get for assuming. ![]()
I just Googled that Top 10 list. Whew - not on it.
I had Nextel as my cell carrier for many years. A number of years ago Sprint acquired them. There were some rocky roads when they left the Nextel network behind and then they seemed to get it together, as far as satellites or whatever those reception thingies are. hehe
My husband has ATT for his cell service and here they are just awful. I know that every market is different but that's sure a bad one here.

On my 1 1/2 year old LG smartphone I go to my homepage - I say OK Google and it flips to the page where it says listening - I say send a text to Joe and it will flip to the text page and say listening - I dictate the text and it will ask if I want to hold it or send it - i say send and it does. Very simple once you know how to do it. My DH just got a new Samsung today - I bet it will have the microphone.
