When I see that my order is being delivered by usps I am annoyed. I requested that my orders be sent by ups even if more expensive. This has not been done. I am tempted to cancel when I see ups is handing over to usps. It just adds days to the expected delivery and my mail is delivered at varying times. A couple of times as late as 10pm. I am looking at Amazon a lot more lately in view of the above.

My experience with shipping via USPS has had a coupe of really bad experiences. I concluded that no human being actually reads the address on the carton. If the scanner can't do the job, your package can get sent back and forth and maybe eventually back to you. I'm not sure if UPS has the same problem.

I just got 2 packages from Amazon & not only were they delivered 2 days later than I expected - they came from UPS vs USPS. The vendor I ordered from is in Chicago, IL it was not a direct Amazon ship.
(No big deal).
I happened to be home and finally saw the UPS guy. I asked him why my packages from QVC start as UPS and then end up being delivered by USPS.
Now, I don't know if this is fact but this was his answer:
"When the US Postal System was failing the government stepped in with a "bailout" for them -- the agreement was a certain % of packages in our area he said approximately 30,000 packages are RE-ROUTED weekly (mainly small envelopes, small boxes, etc.) to the local USPS facility and processed for USPS delivery (eventhough they started as a UPS delivery). This adds 2-4 days extra delivery time." (FedEx, Surepost & one other he mentioned are also involved in this re-routing)
He also stated : Many customers are feeling the price increase using UPS now -- the rates are going up (esp. during holiday season coming) to make up for the "shortfall revenue" UPS is missing.
I'm OK with waiting for my packages from vendors as I never order things I need in a hurry -- for that, I will try to find in a local store.
I've also had things delivered by UPS at 9:30 at night. I am in a gated community and I can hear that truck coming a block away!

QVC is not giving us much choice about how shipping will be handled. But you can make UPS deliver instead of handing off to,the post office system.
Because I am a UPS My Choice member ($40/year) I can get all the Smartpost shipments that would be handed off to USPS kept by UPS for direct delivery by them. Done for free by UPS on request.
Those who who sign up for the free version of UPS My Choice can still have the same privilege of asking UPS to keep it and do the delivery, but for every package redirected that way it is $3.50, payable through PayPal orva credit card. Once you are asking for more than a 10 or so deliveries to be changed every year, it’s worth the $40 to have it done for free.
So you can let a few orders through the Smartpost handoff to USPS if you’re not in a hurry or don’t much care, and then My Choice lets you request the UPS go all the way for delivery of orders you really want with less delay or hassle forva modest fee. Or sign up for the annual fee and every package can automatically go end to end via UPS.
You do have choices with My Choice, if not QVC.

It is much longer....lot's of my orders have taken 10 to 13days....a local post office in my state gets them and then for some reason no further updates and they can sit as long a 7days and then magically my local post office will get them.
Remember when Q had the all day Crede Silver Sale...finally got one of the items I ordered that day....2 others are still on the way....Q shipped them days later....they are out there somewhere.

I hate it when my packages are sent Sure Post because it adds too much time to delivery. Whether I need the item(s) or not, I want to see them as soon as possible. But it isn't always the type of shipping, it's the time it takes to ship. I have an order coming now that was shipped the day prior to the EDD. I'm pretty sure this one will go four to five days past the EDD. Yes, it is shipped by the dreaded Sure Post too so that will add to the time in transit.

9 times out of 10 when something says it is coming surepost, I check the tracking number and there’s a message from UPS saying that they will be in my area and will deliver it instead.
I like that.

You will find most companies today are using UPS and then delivering with USPS. It must be a cheaper way for them to ship even if you are paying and because they are using both it does take more time for delivery. As far as I know, you can't decide how your items will ship. It's just not an option, however, UPS will give you the option to have them deliver if you want to pay more to have them not hand off to the USPS. I think as I remember its like 3.50 or so on top of what you paid QVC or whomever. So your shipping cost goes way up. The problem I find with Amazon is that they have private contractors they are using a lot who deliver your packages most just dump your package on the porch, they don't knock or ring the doorbell you find it by accident that is if someone doesn't lift it off your porch. I prefer either UPS or the USPS for package delivery.
