While there are great savings to shippers, if something goes surepost then the shipping cost should be lower to the customer but that is not what happens. They probably will say they can keep shipping costs down for everything because of this but...
In my area the packages always go to the wrong PO since there are 2 and then need to be transferred to the correct one. More often than not though UPS delivers most of mine because they are usually always in the area.

QVC has been doing this process for years now, this isn't new. I don't like this process either but I'm thinking this handoff helps out the USPS financially to keep them up & running.
I think this process is totally insane. it holds up the end result in consumers receiving their goods in a more timely basis. I'm not at all sure amazon has much to do this with but maybe since they've really in size and volumn.
This process really bogs down the mail people in delivering however. My mail people now need to deliver twice - once around the 'hood to drop off packages they cannot fit or lug around in their carrier bags, then again to drop off regular mail.
I feel sorry for the USPS in the dragdown.

I have registered with UPS my choice and get notifications of my Sure Posts, most of the time I upgrade to UPS delivery for 3.50.

I, too, had issues with this. I placed an order on Dec. 21 and it shipped on the 23rd. When I didn't receive it after 14 days, I called and ordered in another color as mine was on waitlist. I got the second order in 3 days then the original order 1 day later. Also, when it gets passed off, you no longer have a valid tracking # unless I've missed something somewhere. On the other hand, my post office doesn't see to be the most reliable even with the regular mail let alone package delivery.

If you sign up for the UPS My Choice program you will receive notifications that a package is coming. If it is a surepost package UPS will provide the USPS tracking number. The caveat, however, is that USPS is terrible at timely scanning so once your package is in USPS hands the tracking information may or may not be current.

wrote:It is a new thing QVC uses that makes shipping cheaper. At least that is what CS told me when I was trying to track a package and see why it was taking so long to arrive. Packages are shipped partway via UPS and then dropped off at a USPS distribution center for final delivery. I have had several sit there for a week or more.
I noticed this way of shipping seem to happen soon after the $3.00 shipping and handling was put in place. Twice mine have been sitting in the post office without being delivered:, The first time this happened so,after several days I finally saw the Mail Carrier; he got right on the ball and the package was delivered the next day..(Apparently there are other employees who are supposed to move these packages along) My most recent experience was one in which the package sat in the post office for over 3 weeks.before being returned to QVC.. I would rather pay the regular price for delivery rather than experience so many delays but of course the QVC customers did demand cheaper shipping prices so apparently this is the result. Let me be clear: I am talking about the $3.00 shipping fee on clothing. Everything else I've ordered has had the same high shipping cost.

@Kachina624While it's true that some of Amazon is coming via the USPS - it was just in the news, maybe last week, that they get a special rate from the PO! It wasn't part of the report that they are also getting special treatment of those packages, but because it's well-known that Amazon uses its massive size when it wants to, I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn they're being treated better than other shippers in more ways than getting a reduced rate.
I can't link to the article because some of it was political.
I don't use Amazon any longer - figured out itr was costing me more than QVC, and I get my packages much faster than lots of the other posters do. I always assume that has to do with being on the East Coast in very heavily populated places.

wrote:@Rose429I'm guessing but I bet it's because UPS is so busy delivering for Amazon that they pass off as much of everyone else as they can. Amazon gets special treatment because of their overwhelming volume, starting with a lower rate than other shippers and including who knows what else.
My PO where I am right now has been quite good - once something actually ships from QVC I get it very fast - and twice within the last week the carrier showed up at my front door with packages when she could have just left me a note telling me to go to the PO and pick them up!
@millieshops this is not true. If you receive a package that has been transferred to the post office from UPS or FedEx it is because that is how the shipper designated it to go. As someone else on this thread said, the shipper gets even more of a discount when they choose Surepost or Smartpost. So as much as you want to blame Amazon for this, it has nothing to do with Amazon. In this instance it is QVC's doing.
Also, you say Amazon gets special treatment via lower rates than other shippers. That makes sense because they give those agencies more business than other shippers. QVC gets lower rates than any of us if we were to ship something through UPS or the Post Office. Are they getting special treatment too?

I have an order from a week ago that still has not been delivered. On the 24th it showed that it arrived at a postal city in my state, after being at two others prior to that. Today on the 26th it shows that it was "received." I am tired of paying these high shipping costs and having inefficient and delayed shipments. I don't have this with other places that I order from. At this point, I am likely to refuse the shipment. It definitely should not take this long.

Hi @kathisu I apologize that this order has caused you concern. I did look at the tracking information today. I do see there was an update this AM, I will continue to monitor it over the weekend to be sure it does update to successfully delivered. Thank you for shopping and posting with us. ~Kim
