Re: Should we contact 'corporate' about this website?

The older I get... I still hate change... but things change and you just need to go with the flow... at first to  not have the QVC forums would be a sad thing... they really are very special and have a vital life spark of their own which is rare.... These forums are really special.....

but, it they do close down... I will go though the sadness and withdrawls... and eventually move on....  as you just do in life...

For me, I signed in yesterday morning and I haven´t had to sign in again. Hope it stays that way.

If I sign in at the top of the forum page, I have no issues.  I can understand having to sign in twice, because the system for the forum is probably outsourced, on a different server, run by different software, due to performance problems, security, etc.  Not a real issue.

Yes, I'd shut it down too because of all the griping and whining about such small issues as signing in twice.   Ok, so you might have to sign in two times, is that really a problem in your life?

@Sooner  You're oversimplifying the problem. If it was a matter of having to do no more than sign in twice, I suspect we could all live with that. We shouldn't have to, but we could. It's a matter of not being able to get in at all, for hours and hours, of having to perform machinations above and beyond accessing any other website to simply log in and so on. If you haven't experienced the problems then you're fortunate. Wordy, I know, but read my full first post and perhaps you'll better understand the problem.

@stevieb I have worked in IT, worked with IT, and have way more than a passing knowledge.  I was one of the first webmasters in the U.S.

What I know is that it is a complex and expensive business and how much a company would devote in time, expense and software reworking plus server time that is expensive is pretty iffy in today's business model.

So do you want something imperfect or nothing?  I don't think this forum amounts to something any company would spend big bucks on, and I think we are really lucky to have it in any state.

I am more thankful it is here, and I understand it isn't a priority for QVC.  So a little bother?  Fine by me.  I know the issues.

And yes, I have fought with every issues about the forum glitches we are experiencing.  And I have a pretty good idea why most occur.  Been there, done that myself.

Well @Sooner  I understand this perspective and having worked closely with IT providers myself, I guess I just don't agree that what is being offered is acceptable. Clearly, they can run an accessible website, but they just aren't consistently doing so. I do understand this is not a priority and agree, I too am grateful we have the forums, despite the quirks, limitations and the extent to which they have been diluted, but I guess my feeling is access to them should be far more simple than some of us are finding it lately. Past a certain level of 'imperfection', the experience just isn't viable...

I respect both of you, and it's important to me to start by saying I'm not here to argue, confront, or upset anyone.

I do feel there's far more to the problem than the normal login to the shopping website servers and the separate login to the Community forums -- those 2 never have bothered me, and I feel they add to the security of the site and to our accounts.

Coming from a career in IT, the problems associated with the combined shopping website, the product reviews, and the Community website are a major concern to me.

There are many designers and managers involved, caching and content delivery services, cloud services providers, including Akamai Technologies and Khoros, and Bazaarvoice, all of them linking our accounts.   Somewhere in the mix there is a technical failure.  This website has been one of the worst I've used since I first encountered it years ago...  long before I was involved with the Community.   With a substantial global presence, and access to so much personal information, in my opinion this very, very public venue is puzzlingly poorly-designed, poorly managed and at least worth some level of concern.

I can remember when all of us, upon going to the sign-in page, were seeing other people's email addresses already plugged into the email field.  At the moment, even after we log out of our forum account...  when we return we find ourselves logged in, to our great surprise...  and this is not an optional "allow me to remain logged in" feature.   It is a notable programming failure.

There have been countless, highly worrisome issues here, and what bothers me is that not only are they not properly addressed when they crop up...  they build upon past weaknesses and make the site less and less trustworthy.

Your OP was very well stated @stevieb.  You summed it all up in a nutshell.  Why don't you just forward that post to Mike.George@QVC.com? .

In addition, I'm wondering if anyone is also having a problems with their notifications. They seem to be working fine when I'm first able to sign in, then stop working shortly after that.  Same problem  yesterday and today.

@decaf,  I see that problem, too.  I just noticed a couple of posts with my "@+name" there but not in my Notifications.   Some are going through others are not.

@stevieb    Can you place an order online?  The answer is yes, so anything beyond that is not that important to the Q.

Actually these boards are quite negative lately and believe people reading it are weary of placing orders.  The processing time goes on for days, merchandise can't be cancelled, shipping delays, and that's just a fraction of what I read.  If you want to contact Corporate, I would think the above concerns are more important than logging into a forum?  Just my opinion.

People love the Q and are willing to put up with it but at what point do you turn and say, we'll wait until they get their act together.

Adding a thought, what's strange too is that when I place an order with HSN, it's here and fast.  When I place on order with Zulily, if it's in stock it ships within 24 hours, I don't buy from any of the other companies that are all related but it seems odd that one is struggling so much and that starts from the top.

@dooBdoo  I noticed posters tagged me but my notifications say "0".  I opened them anyway, some are listed there and some are missing.  I guess in light of the huge sign in problem, for the moment, this is secondary.  Thanks for letting me know it's not just me.

@Sooner

Is it possible for you to explain in layman's terms why these issues occur so frequently on QVC?

From what I see on other websites, including smaller social media, they are pretty stable and don't experience so many issues so frequently.  They also solve the problem quickly when they do encounter an issue.

I've had to sign in several times on the Forum for a long time, so I'm used it to it, but asking for a new nickname is a bit odd. Closing the page has been working for me, but it's another issue when viewers can't log on without changing it.

I do think there are reasons why QVC supports the Forum that are advantageous for them.

@Foxxee It's economic.  It is difficult and very expensive to maintain software and systems.  QVC probably is operating on a low margin and doesn't have the money to invest in small potatoes like this forum.

Software gets old, software has glitches, gigantic databases run often on machines where these little guys just gum up the works. Software at large scale requires constant updating and adjusting and "fixing" and usually is staffed by software experts and engineer 24/7 or those folks at least are on call.

QVC obviously having problems with their big systems which explains inventory and shipping issues.  They are probably spending big bucks and time trying to fix that.

People who have never been involved with IT at the basic level have no idea what goes into maintaining systems and keeping them running.

So in the scope of things, I imagine that as things change it also affects this board system, and I expect it is at the bottom of the pile for the systems folks attention.

I know from my years of working with IT issues it is a constant struggle.  It's just the way it is.  Fixes, bugs, updates, updates get installed and affect a jillion other things, so you fix that then here comes anther update. . . and on and on.
