QVC Should Be Embarrassed

[ Edited ]

I just received item J331838, the long pendant necklace that they push and pushed last week on Susan Graver's shows.  Every five minutes she was mentioning this necklace.

It's a very attractive piece and perfect for wear with this fall's tunics.  The problem is, it stinks to high heaven.  It's not the insecticide smell imports often have...it's mildew. Right now I'm over 20 ft from the packaging and I can smell it.  It's not just me that noticed it, read the reviews.

Why in  the world would QVC sell something like this?  There's no way they could not have known about the problem but they, in pursuit of the almighty dollar, choose to foist it on us anyway.  Now I have to call CS sit on hold, tell my story, package up the mess and drive to the post office.

It's stunts like this that drive customers away and damage their creditibility.  I wonder if the goodwill lost is worth the profit on the few that customer don't bother returning?

@Kachina624 WOW.......just WOW!! I am so sorry of your experience with this necklace and I am glad I didnt buy it......I have heard of the horrors of formaldehyde-petro-sprayed jeans (especially DG2), and now the mldew jewelry imports. It makes me very weary of buying anything now and one has to wonder of the health concerns from the items they purchase in good faith. Thanks for the warning and the heads up. You shouldnt even have to pay return shipping on that! I just looked at the necklace and it must be the leather cordage (coated with ????)that has the rancid odor eh? YUK!

Wow. I didn't realize that pieces of jewelry could "mildew."

Re: QVC Should Be Embarrassed

I'm betting it's the leather cord....  might still have been slightly wet from processing when they put it in a jewelry box....

I can't stand  mold or mildew odors..........

Can NOT imagine a manufacturer NOT making sure a cord (leather or not) is dry, dry DRY before packaging....

QVC needs to make this right for everyone who bought it and has issues.....!!

The pendant is on a long leather cord.  I imagine it's the leather that's mildewed but the odor is so penetrating, even the metal smells.

Re: QVC Should Be Embarrassed

DH and I used to sell antiques and mildew is one thing I can't  stand, however I bought two items that were mildewed and I solved both with odor absorbing gels.  One was a humpback trunk that had the most beautiful paper graphics inside, so I couldn't scrub it down with bleach or anything like that.  We smelled that trunk at an estate sale way before actually seeing it.  The price was a give away so we bought it.   I bought two of these odor absorbers and put them in the trunk and closed the lid for two to three weeks. When I opened the trunk it was fresh and there was no odor.....  I waited a week to see if the situation changed and it didn't.

The other was a small chest and I did the same with each drawer (four of them).  Turned out great with no more mildew odor..... but I think it's absolutely something that QVC should address and refund all monies involved.

I received my cord pendant day before yesterday-no problem with any smells.

Purchased some CIJ Mercury Birds and Glitter Picks and they had that same odor. Shipping was 5.50 one way and 6.65 back. It was cheaper to keep them and hope they air out by December.

Q has a major scam going.

@Q4u what are these odor obsorbers called?  Is there a brand name?  I have five small American Girl dolls that are in beautiful condition all in their own boxes.  Problem is, they were in our basment and they smell.  I've put them out in the sun (they weren't wet) thinking that would take the smell out but it didn't work.  I can't wash them so I need something that will absorb and take the odor out.
