Payment by check is just a "hold" on the order

I am just wondering how many of you are aware that if you pay by check, your order is on "hold" and will be sold to the next person using a credit card when inventory gets low?  This happened to me today with the Clark's TSV when I went back to change my payment method to my credit card.  Now the item is on backorder.  Why doesn't a notification come up that your item is just on hold and that you haven't really purchased it?  Oh well, it is just a pair of shoes that nobody really has to have.  What an unclassy way to do business.

This has happened to me ,too.  Sometimes I pay by check, just to give me a little time to think about the purchase.  Sometimes, I change my mind and cancel the order.  Most of the time, I change it to a credit card if I really want it.  You can't do the check if the item is selling fast, though.  They will "sell it out from under you" lol!

@friend to animals

I read your post twice, and I still don't believe you're serious.

If you put something in your shopping cart and it happens to be the last one, unless you promptly pay for it some other shopper can buy it right out from under your nose.

This isn't new information.

If I really wanted an item, under NO circumstances would I ever ... ever ... put a check to them in snail mail.     Wasted energy, and you won't get the item.

If they have the opportunity to sell an item as opposed to someone paying by check and waiting for that check (or you decide to cancel) of course which do you think they will do?????

I can understand that some people may not be  comfortable using a credit card or debit card online. For those people rather than payment by check I would suggest buying gift cards and using those. Purchase goes through, payment made just like with a CC.

Prepaid cards/gift cards cannot be used for Easy Pay options.

If you use PayPal then your wallet there can include direct payment from your bank and the transaction is treated as a debit through PayPal.

I've read many times here that people use the check thing to decide if they really want something or not.  So it doesn't surprise me at all that QVC doesn't let that happen if inventory is low and rightfully so.

I think just about all of us know that.  If something is selling out, they give it to the customer with money in their hand, ready to pay for it now.  A promise to pay by check is just a promise.  Sometimes its only a wish.  A high percentage of those checks never arrive.  Back in the day, some of us did what you tried to do.  Reserve an item by using pay by check.  Then they tightened up on that.

I pay by check & NEVER had the problem you speak of.

Re: Payment by check is just a "hold" on the order

I have used "check hold" when we go away.  When I was new to QVC we were planning our vacation. The kids were still in school, and our neighborhood seemed to empty out at the same time. None of my neighbors was going to be here, and I didn't want to ask one of my close friends to go out of their way (even though they would have!)

Back then most orders came by UPS. They would just leave it, unless it had to be signed for- in which case they would send it back!

One of the CS representatives suggested doing this. So now I will put an order on "check hold" a few weeks before we leave. About 3 days before we leave to come back I convert the order to a card! I've never had a problem doing this!   Smiley Happy
