@songbird I think you should definitely notify the PO. There is an easy on-line form to fill out, and once notified, they do respond.

Many years ago, heard the mailman del the very small pkg I was expecting from QVC. I hurried to the mailbox and the pkg was ripped apart, jewelry gone. I ran down the street (I was young) and asked the mailman why del a obviously ripped open pkg knowing that there was nothing in it. He said he had no choice..he has to del pkgs given to him. QVC did send me another earring at no more cost.
Now a days some of my packages are del to the next street because they have the same address number I have. Fed Exp. the other day del my package next door. I found it because Fed. Exp. provides a POD PICTURE and I recognized my neighbor's porch in the picture. What was funny was here was a picture of the POD of another persons porch but my address on the label! You would think they would have noticed.

World has gone to hale in a hand basket.
Nobody cares about nothing any more.
Every time I go thru a drive thru I say "no pickles"
At Popeyes I had to drive up to get out of the way all I
had ordered was no pickle fish sandwich & sprite.
So, I drive up and wait and wait and wait finally they bring out the little order. I drive off find a parking spot where
I can eat in peace opened the wrapper yeah, I got the
fish and 4 pickles. Phew all that waiting and a simple request "no pickle" and 20 minutes later I'm throwing the pickles away.
My sister don't like cheese. She goes to McDonald's orders a big Mac "no cheese" she gets the order double cheese that she had to pay for when she requested NO cheese. I give up

I have had things stolen more than once by post office employees, including merchandise and checks. Reporting it does no good.

I think reporting doesn't do any good at all. I work in interlibrary loan at a university library. We get ILL books through the mail. A couple of times over the years, they became ripped open with lost books etc. As a borrower though, we have to pay for them. It's in the ILL rules. If the lending library does get our books, they pay too. Even though the culprit was the Post Office. The machines do some damage to packages. If they're ripped, does not make any difference. Stuff that comes out of the packages are tossed aside. Those empty packages still be be delivered. QVC doesn't get the items back. They are insured. 95% of packages are processed by machines. Theft by postal empolyees is not that common.
