I believe the clock was used to let the host know the amount of time they had to show and talk about the product.

Usually, I think the timers are pointless, but I appreciate them when they pop up during long presentations such as the TSV or a Big Deal—it's good to know when that half hour or so has only a few minutes left and they'll finally be moving on...
@loriqvc this is the reason I like when the timer is on the screen. If I am channel surfing and they are on an item I am not interested in it's good to know how much longer that item will be on air then I will decide to wait around for the next item or continue channel surfing. This is especially the case when they are presenting the TSV.
