Background colors online

Is it my laptop or does it seem that both HSN and QVC seem to brighten up the colors in online photos?  Seems that lately I have been returning many items that looked brighter online than in person - especially when my laptop read a white background but in person, it was more of a beige/tan.

I am trying to think if I have noticed that.

in fact, in this instance, the true colors were more vibrant in person than on the computer:
