worst temper tantrum by a child what would you do?

Yesterday at WM a boy ( 3-4 yrs old) totally went ballistic. I felt so sorry for his Mom. She had a younger child w/ her.The kid was hysterical. He wanted something and she said no. I do not think she could have taken him to the car and also taken the younger child with her.

What would you have done? There is so much we can no longer do and probably shouldn't. DH said she should have let him have his tantrum till he was worn out.
