Some people do talk with their hands but I don't.

People who talk with their hands sometimes do so for emphasis on a specific point but other times because they are grappling for words.

I am probably guilty, more than I realize. Like another poster said, I TRY not to be too animated. Awhile back I noticed a friend doing something weird with her hands, as she had never done before. For some odd reason she used both hands & did a "duck quacking" motion when saying certain things. She did it about 3-4 different times we were together & then just stopped. I think she might have been mimicking another friend of hers. I wanted to take my hands & put over hers to bring hers down, lol, but I didn't say a word.

I am amazed at how many of you talk with your hands. My daughter does and it drives me crazy. I have watched her time and again having conversations and her arms are flying all over the place and I want to grab them and hold them down. I imagine it is a form of expression and some people become animated when they talk. I had to laugh at some of the posters who are concerned about accidentally hitting someone and the one poster who sent a glass flying off a table. Incidentally, I do not talk with my hands.
One habit my daughter has concerns me. When speaking to someone she breaks eye contact and while talking turns her head ever so slightly to the right and continues talking while her eyes are focused on empty space. When I see her do that I am, at the same time, wondering what the other person is thinking. She does turn back to the listener and makes eye contact again. I am curious as to how that would be analyzed. Anyone have a clue?

I do not use my hands for emphasis when I'm talking, I find it very distracting when people do that.

I used to before I retired. I don't find myself talking to as many people and sort of let a lot go that used to bother me. Not worth trying to get across my point. Whatever... Fine...I am more relaxed.

No, I do not. It appears arrogant to me. However, in my working life I did do many presentations for a Fortune 500 Company. At times, I would use a gesture to make a specific point.
