My friend does this. Her hands and arms are always moving when talking. Makes me a nervous wreck. I find I concentrate more on watching her hands move than on what she is saying. This is just normal conversation, nothing that needs all this limb movement drama.

Yes, I do use my hands. My hsband told me I probably couldn't talk if I weren't able to use my hands. I don't even know I'm doing it!!

I am not a hand talker. Whether it is nature or nurture, it does not come naturally to me. I know many people that gesticulate a lot. I don't like or dislike it - it doesn't matter to me.

I can't stand the touuchy feely talker.

And people talking on the phone look strange and IMO kind of silly making hand motions when obviously the person that they are talking to can't see them. I see this happening a lot.

@Lindsays Grandma Flying hands do not bother me half as much as eyes wondering off. I find it a sign of disinterest in what I’m saying at the moment and rude.

My DH sits across the desk all day speaking to clients and keeping eye contact to show interest and also keep them focused since he’s explaining complicated tax issues. Comes home to me? Eyes wandering all over the room. He’s just not able to stay eye to eye after 10 hrs. of looking at a computer and into clients’ faces/eyes. After 50 yrs. I’ve accepted that and understand he’s still paying attention, just his eyes are not.

Yep! Must have come my Italian side. My mother and her mother, moved here from Italy, and when their dander was up at bit? Watch out for those moving hands!

I think that is sad you feel that way...just live and enjoy.Who cares what anyone else thinks.Your hands may not be as beautiful as some but your heart is more beautiful than many.My hands aren’t pretty either but they are mine and I am grateful to have them to use.If someone rudely says they are ugly...well I don’t need to give them a hand.

eyes off to the side, she's remembering something as she tells you about it. read up on eyes in conversation. it's very interesting. i bet it's great to have a daughter to talk with.
