When my kids were little I used to read them poetry. This is one of their favorites by Jack Prelutsky:

"My mother makes me chicken,

Her chicken makes me cough;

I wish that when she made it,

She took the feathers off. "

Not terribly deep, and hardly inspirational, but deifinitely chuckle worthy.

cute-- i've written simple little things when my youngest loved dinosaurs:

Shrieking, piercing, dangerous roars

Of large and vicious carnasaurs

Did split the evening calm and night.

Can you imagine what 'twas like

If you, a gentle Trachodon

Or horned thumbed Iguanadon,

'pon hearing rages such as these

Would take to forests full of trees

Escaping through mire and sandy dune

To flee Tyrannasaurus' tune?

Dinosaurs are living

In my own backyard.

I saw them there just hiding

'Neath the leaves and sward.

I told my mom I saw them

She laughed at me and so

I brought one to the door

Just to let her know.

She stared but didnt see that

Gentle Trachodon

So I put my plastic toys away~~

The dinosaurs were gone.

Sylvia, I love your dinosaurs poem. I could see that being made into a children's book. ( kinda reminds me of "Where The Wild Things Are"

in my life, I've written all kinds of things--I have a few more dino poems--I wrote them for my youngest, who loved them and wanted to be a scientist--he's actually a banker now LOL

Me too. Sylvia, I would bet big bucks that Preds didn't mean to be unkind. You have been around here long enough to have observed that yourself. I have never seen her be mean to anyone. She, like myself sometimes, was just getting into the spirit of being silly. That is to be encouraged around here IMO.
