It was "nasty, smelly, hot, etc." and yet you stayed for three (3) nights? Didn't you get the message after the first night? Did you even go and check it out before you brought your own sheets and towels, etc.?

This is a new one for me. Did you pay her up front in full? You do realize that you paid over $200 per night and had to supply your own things? What did the room smell like anyway? Did you check under the bed? {#emotions_dlg.confused1}

Bedbugs would have been a big concern for starters.

My husband is pig headed and he refused to leave, of course I realized what I paid. Beach rentals are costly and shorter stays are not easy to find.

We rent almost every year in Summer and Winter and never have gone to check a property out.

Of course you have to pay upfront on a house rental there is not other way they do it

Re: what would you do in this situation

We rented a condo on the beach on the panhandle of Florida at the beginning of June this year. There were 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms and A/C. The only thing we had to bring was beach towels. It was a beautiful condo. We rented it for 7 nights. It cost us $4500. It was well worth it. We had other members of our family with us.

All of this was done on the internet. We live 8 hours away and there was no way we were going to drive there ahead of time to check it out. We bought vacation insurance just in case something like your situation happened. We did take a look around for next year when we plan to go there but we didn't see one condo that was not up to standards.

I feel badly for you having such a bad experience.

We have had amazing rentals booking this way, this is probably the 10th time we have booked a house or a condo on line with little or no issues

Did you explain that you didn't want to buy it? Just rent it?

We did. LOL All the beachfront properties in the area we rented are high priced. The other couple and us split the cost. So you figure about $2250 for 7 nights on the beach was a pretty good deal.

If you hoped to get any part of your money back you should have waited to give the negative review. Once you left a negative review there is no advantage to the rental agent/owner in giving you money back.

Had I been in your situation, I would have paid with a credit card, notified the rental agent/owner that the place was uninhabitable by email so I had a record of it, and left. I would then have disputed the charge with my credit card company.

I am not sure if you could do that, if you stay in the place??

rental condos and homes that are right on the beach in the delmarva area go for similar amounts in the high season.....memorial day-labor day. it isnt out of line here. we have a 2 bedroom, 2 bath condo that rents for 3000+ in season, with weekly rentals only available. that doesnt even include the badge and parking fees that allow you to use the pools/tennis courts/fitness center.

Re: what would you do in this situation

I don't think you will get anything since you stayed. I agree that you can give them a bad review online and people do look that up.

PS You just brought back memories by mentioning Brigantine. We used to stay there summers all through my childhood. I have fond memories. Back then there were lots of motels, cabins etc. I hear now its mostly condos. Anyway Brigantine was wonderful when we went.
