I agree with chickenbutt. I do give to the mail carrier & some neighbors small things. And coworkers small gift cards, maybe $20.

In general, I don't have a budget. I do have a Christmas club at the bank, and most years I can save between $500 and $700, but usually have spent more than that.
How much we spend has changed through the years as family dynamics change, and as our income increases. When the kiddo was little, we spent a lot more than we did the last couple of years, and we'll be spending even less this year.
Many will not approve, but we often gift second hand (not regifted) items. We all have a love of various types of antiques and even the guys have interest in older books about their fields, or old tools for their interests. So very often, a portion of our gifting (in the family only) has been things from second hand stores, garage sales, or antique stores/flea markets. And those things are usually a bigger hit than the new stuff. I picked up two old books yesterday about guns/hunting that I know will be a welcome addition to my son's library we built him, of books about his profession (machining) and his hobby (gunsmith).

One gift my girlfriends and I give each other are the hard soaps from TJ Maxx, Home Goods and Marshalls. They cost $4 - $5 and we are all addicted.
In fact my 22 year old Son LOVES the hard milled soap. He was eyeing a wrapped bar I left out - of course I gave it to him.
Home Goods had a vanilla hand lotion in a pump Ball jar last year that was absolutely divine ...

My sister and I exchange gifts and I buy for my DH but the rest of my side doesn't exchange anymore. It was just too many to buy for everyone so then we started to pick names and set a $50.00 limite and then we just stopped. I do not exchange with any friends.
I will spend about $300.00 on my sister then I spend $100.00 each on my SIL, BIL, DH's cousin and his aunt and uncle.
I don't do a x-mas club per se but I do have a savings account that I deposit X amount of money into each week and that is what I use for holiday gifts.

With Christmas presents and a birthday on the 28th, I have 6 adult gifts to get and two children's gifts. I spend a little more on the kids than the adults. And, I can't forget, the cat and dog need to exchange gifts, which are usually bags of treats.
No one should be left out. I can usually do it all for around $400-ish.
