Based on info from the Amazon Help Forum, I turn Settings to Airplane mode while reading. It DOES save big time on the battery! Look for the 3 horizontal bars on the upper tight of the home page, tap it and go to Settings. Tap Airplane Mode to "on" and you'll see a big change in battery usage, I sure did. Hope this helps.
