ugg boots, are they really worth it?

I am considering buying some ugg boots. I know they are kind of expensive and am wondering if they are worth the splurge. Anyone own a pair? How do you like them? Are they even in style anymore? I live in a cold climate and would primarily wear them in the snow. Just wondering how othes like them.
