how long did it take?

i would probably do $5 - $10 each if it was a short period of time.

If the delivery was to my house today, I would give each $20.

There is snow/ice everywhere and they would have to carry up several flights of stairs.

When we got our mattress last year we tipped ten dollars each.

I think $5-10 per person sounds about right.  It would depend  on such factors as did they have to walk up a long inclined driveway to get to your house, and did they have to take stairs to get to the bedroom? I want to take this opportunity to ask a variation of this tip question: how much should one tip movers? Should it based on a percentage of the final bill? Thank you in advance.

Nothing.  I think tipping has gotten out of hand. There are tip jars everywhere for everything these days.  If they just delivered a mattress that you ordered, what's to tip? It's their job to deliver it.  They did not do anything special to deliver it.  A hair stylist is different.  When I get my hair cut, she does some special stuff that I appreciate and she does a great job.

I would have done more, but when we had our mattress delivered last year, my dh gave them 20.00 each. It was a very heavy mattress. And the mattress they took was too.

I would give at least  $10.00 each, I am not wealthy but I always take into consideration factors like traffic, difficulty to find a parking spot - I live in New York - I also take into consideration the weather, if is too hot or too cold and also the good attitude and willingness of the delivery people like if I ask for a phone call when they are on their way, same for food delivery, with the snow storm this week, I have ordered from restaurants near by so they can walk and don't have to drive or ride a bike to deliver my food but I tip extra due to inclement weather.

@El_Lay  That would depend on a lot of things.......

Professional or Pookie from around the way?

How many movers?

Moved from apt/condo to house or vice versa?   Or apt/condo moved to same?

Moving out of state?

Movers had to climb stairs?

House small, medium, large?

Did they put your things in the places you wanted....you changed your mind & had the movers move your things someplace else?

Anything broken, scratched, etc.?

On average (professional):

3 movers who just did their job the normal rate (depends on region) - $30 to supervisor......$20 each for the other 2.  Give each one a bottle of water.

If the 3 movers went over & beyond - $50-$100 to supervisor.......$40-$75 each for the other 2.  Give each one a bottle of water.

Moving from 1 state to another is another can of worms.  Most times you will have 2 set of movers.  1st set moves you out of your home.  A different will drive & maybe 1 or 2 extras will accompany to the other state.   $$$$$$$$.

My mother moved from N.J. to Ga.  She tipped the movers who drove from N.J. to Ga. a total of $300 (3 movers).  Took them to dinner which she also paid for.  My middle brother drove.

She knew the manager of the hotel they were all spending the night.  She had the manager upgrade their rooms. Smiley Surprised

My middle brother met the movers in Ga.  The movers were on time - a little early, my mother was the drill sargent working the movers for over 3  hours as she kept changing her mind where she wanted things.  It got to the point my brother had to tell my mother let the movers "do their job."  If you want something changed, he will do it.  Thankfully, that never happened.
