Re: there is another Queen in the world!

@On It @I watched the funeral and remarked to my husband that it was very unwise for so many people to gather maskless. I hope she comes through her illness OK.

@beckyb1012 @I think this is called a Queen Regnant. She is the only one in the world.

@gertrudecloset @They are all Queen Consorts. Margrethe is the only Queen Regnant in the world.

True. The rest of the Queens are Consorts.  Queen Maxima is in the US right now.

Re: there is another Queen in the world!

Queen Margrethe and Queen Elizabeth were close. Both are great-great granddaughters of Queen Victoria. Queen Margrethe was the only one outside of the immediate family who called her "Lilibet." The Queen called Margrethe "Daisy."

They didn't get to see each other that often, but always enjoyed their times together.

Queen Margrethe celebrated her own Golden Jubilee shortly after Queen Elizabeth's death. She scaled down the celebration and led everyone in a moment of silence.

Although there are some "queens in waiting," currently Queen Margrethe is the only one who is queen by birth and not by marriage.

Those are great photos.  I have a feeling our next Queen by birth will be Victoria in Sweden.  Sweden did not change their rules of succession until after her and her younger brothers birth.  I always wondered what he thought knowing as an infant for a short while he was heir to the throne and not his older sister.  The King of Sweden did not look as young as he used to at the funeral this week.
