Hi Noel! I thought I would go fancy when I had to replace everything ... well, big mistake! Crock Rocks!

Hamilton Beach and Black and Decker make pretty sturdy crockpots too....

I was born and raised in New York and on the Yanks but currently reside in Ohio. I still wear all my Yankee gear. I wear my late husband's cap. He loved them so much and used to sleep in his Yankee cap. Anyway, it wasn't such a great year for us. Best of luck to 'O Captain, my Captain.' What a fine young man from a lovely family.
Back to the slow cooker. The one I have has a warm setting. I put everything in before I leave for work. If it's done cooking before I get home, the cooking stops and it automatically switches to the 'warm' setting. For me, that's an important feature. Gook luck in your quest. docsgirl
Hi docsgirl,
I have a Yankee thread each season. Please join in next year.
You'll be able to follow along even living in Ohio.

Hmmm I've never tried the liners. I have a 6 qt.
Recently bought a 4 qt programmable.
Need to break out my Fix It & Forget It recipe book. And I think I have a diabetic one too even though we aren't . . . always good to watch those ingredients anyway.
Daughter and a couple of friends went to Disney this weekend and just reading the menus at the Food & Wine Festival . . . I've been hungry all weekend.

- I also have the Rival "Crock Pot" brand.
I have a newer version - oval with removable ceramic crock. Off, Low, High, Warm.
I also have one of the original Rival Crock Pots, the tall round one. It still works like a charm.
When we had parties at work, staff would bring in a lot of crock pots. There were a lot of different brands and they all seemed to work fine. They all had the removable crock and most had the simple knob for On, Low, High. Very few had the fancy touch pad features.
You can't beat a real "Crock Pot" brand. I have a digital Cuisinart that can't come close to my Rival! The digital is going in the next yard sale.
Go with a REAL Crock Pot and you'll be good to go. DH likes to use the Reynolds slow cooker liners when he uses it.I do miss my 6 quart Nesco, but I've adjusted.
that is the kind my DH has. he loves it! ![]()

dmod nj,
Thanks for the invitation to join the thread next year. I will do so as no one around here wants to talk Yankees except to demean them. I was born in Brooklyn, raised in Queens but when I got married we moved to Long Island. My late husband, God rest his soul, used to take our son up to the old stadium for many home games. He was born and raised in Ohio but always wanted to live in New York and that is where I met him. Actually, he was my professor in grad school at St. John's in Queens. I miss him so much and I miss home. The standard of living here is unbelievably inexpensive compared to home so I've decided to stay here close to his grave. I'm going to try to go home next summer. Thank you, again for the invitation to join the thread. I hope we have a better year next year. Good luck with your crock pot decision. I use mine just about every week during the fall and winter months. There's nothing like coming home to a hot and hearty home cooked dinner. docsgirl

On 9/28/2014 kdgn said:Complicated Marianne- Go out immediately and buy the slow cooker liners by Reynolds!!! 4 to a box, toss after using. I don't have to spray or scrub the insert any more. Never. I wipe it out and that's it. I have plenty of room so I think these are "one size fits all" liners.
I agree with the liners!
When I have to bring food to a horse show, I use the crockpot and those liners. Great Invention!

I have a Rival and a Hamilton Beach because every St. Patrick's Day I make corned beef for anywhere from 8-12 people.
Anyway, whatever you buy, please be aware the crockpots today cook WAAAYY faster than those of old. I don't care of you have the Low/High settings or timers. Most stews, roasts/meat dishes cook anywhere from 4-6 hours depending on the poundage.

Personally I would never waste money on liners. When I unload the food from the cooker I immediately place it in the sink, rinse it out, fill it with hot water and a little Dawn. In no time it's soaked clean. Never ever have a problem with cleaning the slow cooker.
