The liquidation sale was bought up by people who specialize just in liquidations so they are not losing any money. They bought up all the inventory for pennies on the dollar but you must buy everything.
I wouldn't get too worried about anybody losing money, I understand the "regular" rugs were pulled from the stores and the liquidators rugs were brought in and being sold at the discounted prices.
Clothing is generally marked up 500% so there's plenty of room for any retailer to have their sales. For example, have you seen the MSRP on brand name clothing for sale at Sam's and Costco ...Regular $50 for a men's polo selling for $9.98 (just an example)....now really, how much did Sam's or Costco actually pay for that shirt and if you would buy at a department even on sale, look at the margin on that shirt....just crazy.

The closings of Carson's makes me sad as they were my go to when I first entered the workforce in the 70's along with Marshall Field's. Sorry to see this happening.

@momtochloe Same here. I had the biggest connection with Carson's. Like @kaydee50 I loved the State Street store. The little alcove on State & Madison was my meeting place whenever my Mother and I would meet for shopping. I lost her 19 years ago yesterday and it feels like each time something/somewhere that we used to share closes/changes, I lose a little more of her all over again. This probably doesn't make sense to anyone unless they've been thru it.

Our Bon Ton(Boston Strore) is closing at our local mall. It is the last anchor store, so it is really sad. Our Mall is undergoing a transition right now, so hopefully it is able to bounce back, but it has been lacking in the last few years, and really needs a lot of help to come back.
All of our Anchor Stores closed, Sears, JC Penneys and now Boston Store.......I am not sure what this company can do to revive our mall, but time will tell!
I feel very sad that our BonTon store is closing. It was a great store and was always fairly busy!

@TiqueI used to go shopping with my mom all the time. The store clerks would love to see us as we always had such a good time (they got so used to us they used to hold clothes in the back for me that they thought I would like so I wouldn't miss out on my size). I can still remember the layout of the store as we always parked in the same place and would look through everything before we got to the clothing section so yes my friend it does make sense to me.

@momtochloe Who would have thought when we were shopping with our moms and the salespeople recognized us that in our lifetimes that would become a rarity, almost nonexistent? Remember when those ladies would spray you with cologne whether you wanted it or not? I'm very grateful for those memories even though today I'm feeling quite emotional. Thank you for your reply.
One last thing - it annoys me to no end that "our" Carson's is now a Target.

We used to go to Carson Pirie Scott when I was a kid in Chicago. Loved that store. We'd have lunch at The Tartan Tray.
