The recalls I think are so more prevalent due to fear of lawsuits...in the past, they probably didn’t worry too much about some possible problems in the food they were selling...people got sick and got better.

About ten years ago, I made a can of alphabet soup and we ate it late at night after a late church function. Four of us ate it and all four of us were doubled over in pain by morning....the whole scenario...I will spare the graphic details....We were so sick I had to see the dr and he said if our stomach hurt that much we had food poisoning. He said to call the CDC. I gave them the info on the can label...the woman on the phone I spoke with said they couldn’t issue a recall until there were a minimum number of deaths from that particular batch of soup. None of us died....but I haven’t bought another can of alphabet soup since then! Hopefully, the protocol is different now than it was back then.
