I agree that the colors should be the same or similar and I found some that are, I guess I was hoping to bring more color into this area with the rug. I guess I can do that with accessories, which I am currently trying to find. I have mostly blue in this room, with a couple yellow decorations and a red rustic clock on the tabletop. I am hoping to find a colorful lampshade for the gray lamp for the entryway but i am finding it hard to get away from all the brown and beige. ITs harder to do than those decorating magazines and Pinterest make it seem!! LOL

Isn't that the truth!
I do pretty good will helping others but struggle a bit when I'm doing my own place.
Having colorful items on the table sounds like a good way to bring in color. Maybe you could hang a picture over the table to bring in more color or a mirror to reflect the other room. I don't know your setup so I'm just throwing out some thoughts. You could also get an umbrella stand or some put some type of vase/holder for the floor and fill with color.
ETA: I was thinking for the table in the hallway but not sure that's where the table is you mention.

The two rugs are beautiful by themselves but I wouldn't use them together. If you want to coordinate, try using stripes or some kind of a geometric pattern with similar colors or a solid color. Something else to consider. Nylon puts off a lot of static energy. Are you sure you want people coming into your home, shaking hands or hugging while shocking each other, the dog or the kids? Something to consider. I love your first rug choice the best.

The first rug, with the swirls, I already own and have for a year. It is in the 8x 10 size in my great room. I have some blue accents, and some white things but my furniture it dark as far as the tables and my couches are a beigeish goldish color. I went neutral on the couches so I could put any color but with the rug I feel limited again! I found a dark brown on clearance with some design and I guess I'll just go with it. My foyer tile is beige (ugh!) so the brown at least will pop. I'm re-thinking he grey lamp now....I didn't want to go with blue, I want to keep it neutral...so anyway....this is sooooo hard! for me anyway

Giggle. Whenever I read this type of thread title, before I open I always say to myself, "GOSH, I hope Brew responds"...haven't been disappointed yet. You're awesome!

I'm not a fan of matchy-matchy everything. I think it is more interesting to mix it up. They should coordinate or compliment each other (not clash) if they are close to each other, but that's it. However, do what makes you happy.

I know!
(and when I read the title, I couldn't help but think the rug should match the drapes). lol

I have very old rugs from Afghanistan, Persia and Pakistan. None of them match. Maybe they have similar colors, but thay's all. I have wall to wall carpets in bedrooms, but they don't match, since the halls have some middle-eastern rugs.

I LOVE the rug in your great room! The one for your foyer will stick out like a sore thumb, in my opinion. I would at least get something similar to your area rug. So the transition from one part of your home to the next is fluid.
