my foyer looks right into my great room. Do I need to match my entry way rug with my area rug? I can, and did buy the matching rug but before I open it I was thinking it might be boring having them the same. My rug is from better homes and gardens-beige with some brown swirls and a little cream color in the design. I have beige furniture and some blue, yellow and gray color in my throw pillows and accent things. I would like a colorful print rug in the foyer to bring in more color but don't know if i should or not. What do you think? I have this rug in my great room:

thinking about this one for foyer entry

Heck, no, they don't need to match! As long as their colors blend well and any pattern scales (sizes) are similar, I'd go for different rugs.

Hi, I would match them approximately in color and intensity of hue but would _not_ buy identical rugs in the same pattern in different sizes.

Mine do not match but I pulled colors from the large area rug for the smaller entry rug. They blend well.

While the rugs don't have to match I like to coordinate them.

what about the one I chose ---does it fit the bill as far as the coordinating etc? I really dont know how to mix prints correctly.

It should if you're going to a nudist camp.

Hi msme! I agree with the other posters who said the rugs don't have to match, but they should coordinate. I checked out the ones you're interested in and, while I like them both, I don't necessarily think they look good together. If I were going to use the printed one in the foyer, I would choose a solid for the main room. Or, if you want to use the better homes and gardens rug you found, I would choose a different one for the foyer. Good luck with whatever you decide!

I personally would say that they need not match. In fact, I prefer things that don't.

That said, I like the one you have chosen for the main room but don't think the other goes with it at all. (Which color did you chose?) Too many circles in the hall one: too busy and would detract from the other. A hall rug that was more geometric or just a tone on tone trellis similar to the background of the main rug with the same colors would work better.

Again, this is just me. We have a hodge lodge of orientals in all our room but try to keep the color palette the same in rooms that adjoin.
