thinking of getting a Roomba for Christmas.  They are pretty pricey and I know  a friend who got one of another brand.  I would like your opinion on this --both kinds--and also does it pick up cat litter?  I would LOVE something to do my vacuuming of the cat litter since I have to keep the box in my home office and it is a constant battle.

THANK YOU!

My sister has had hers for almost 5 years and LOVES it.

I read somewhere that 93% of Roomba owners name their cleaner.   My sister named hers "Sprocket" ...  LOL

A few months ago I splurged and got the top of the line Roomba from BB&B. I was able to use a 20% coupon for it so I was happy. We began to use it and it did an ok job. I have 2 long-hair cats and was delighted that it picked up their litter and hair. But into the third week of using it I began to just get exasperated with it. The "walls" didn't seem to block it from going where I didn't want it to go. I ended up running all over the house beforehand picking things up that got in its way. The last straw was the remote worked randomly. When I wanted it to return to its "home" it never did. This expensive item was supposed to make my life easier and it ended up having me run all over the house after it. I ended up getting my $900 back when I returned it. Thank goodness!

If a couch is upholstered in a way that it has heavy skirts/flaps--whatever they're called, will it bypass them and go under a couch?  Or will it hit them and back away?

I ask because she keeps the leafs to her table (boxed) under her couch and probably wouldn't want the machine under there.

Also, if it went under her dining table with 8 chairs around it, would it get stuck?  She moves all the chairs every time she vacuums.  It would be a plus if it did do under there as the dog walks under the table to head thru to the kitchen.

It's not dog hair, but the little tiny imprints the pup leaves that drives her nuts.

@ID2  I don't understand the 'walls' concept.  If you don't want it to go near an antique piece of furniture somehow you can get it to stay away?  Or you just don't want it to go beyond a room or two and it did (like maybe you didn't want it in the kitchen)?

I guess I'm wondering what could get in it's way?

It's been a long time since I've used my Roomba, but I didn't like it at all.  When I bought it I had both dogs and cats.  Like others have said, the hair would get caught in the brushes and was hard to remove.  Also, for me it was a pain to prepare the house for the Roomba.  I had to pull up lamp cords and move a couple of pieces of furniture or it would get stuck.  I gave up on it.  Maybe they've improved it, but I considered it a waste of money for me.

So glad to read your review. I have hesitated in buying a roomba over the years. I've read Anazons reviews, but never took the plunge. Thanks for your review.

I'm not sure it would remove the footprints because I had berber carpet with no pile.  Call CS at Roomba  and ask before you buy.  They have good CS.

My parents had friends who bought new plush carpet which showed footprints badly.  Within 2 weeks of having it installed, they had it ripped out and replaced with something else.  Their house was decorated with military precision.

I don't mind vacuuming, I'd like a Roomba or whatever to do my dusting.  haha

I have 2 Roomba's.  They work fine.  A quick story.  I would come home and I couldn't find one of the Roombas.  It happened a few times.  I'd find it under a bad, in a different room, everywhere.  I couldn't figure out what the hay was happening to the thing.

When I'd left it was in it's craddle charging.

One day I was home and the cat jumped off of the windowseat onto the Roomba, the thing took off, the cat took off running.  The mystery was solved!

@3suwm5  How about something to unload the dishwasher?
