The "City of Paris" dept. store in downtown San Francisco was so magical at Christmas. It will stick in my memories forever.

My favorite is Harrods ! It's really an adventure and so much fun to visit. I was amazed to see the variety of merchandise and the staff is so knowledgeable.

My great aunt worked at I Magnin's, in the fine dress and fur depts..oh the stories she told! The famous ladies she knew....a real who's who....

and as a kid, the fashion shows and lunches at Bullocks Wilshire and the tea room..aah the memories!

Re: remember department stores ?

growing up in San Francisco Christmas was so much fun!   So much to do!,  The stores Downtown were beautiful.  The Emporium had roof top rides, Santaland

and a small ice skating rink.  The City of Paris had a hugh Christmas Tree in the

cnter of the store that reached to the dome and you could view each section

for the different floors.  Even the cable cars were decorated.  And the Nutcracker

was affordable to go see.  That was in the 40's and 50's.  There was a floral store

that was magnificent.  Each store seemed to take more time and pride in their

decorations and every year I couldn't wait to see what new display they would do.

The Emporiium merged with Capwells now both gone and so it the City of

Paris.  Macy;s is still there of course and I am sure that store is beautiful.  For a

resonable price the department stores would wrap your giifts and the store

wrap  which was free and nice . Today,  that little brown truck delivers our shopping. and the gifts put into reuseable gift bags.   But Christmas will always be Christmas and

children and grandchildren bring the magic into it.
