I'd also note that using Firefox, the site is still not full speed, more than a day later. Unbelievable for a major retailer.

I assume QVC has been too cheap to fix their site. Obviously, they don't understand the concept of cutting off their nose to spite their face.

They probably wouldn't admit it anyway, but I was wondering if they were somehow hacked yesterday afternoon. I was getting some strange messages and one of my computers did some bad stuff after I used it coming here yesterday afternoon.

I'm on my newest computer now and it seems ok, but that had me rattled. I was getting BSOD pages with error messages (a couple of different ones) when I tried to come here yesterday afternoon (it was fine that morning). Additionally, the banner top part of the page was not showing at all and was replaced with some weird bunch of letters and numbers. One message I got was that if I tried to log in it was going to take me to something else (a bunch of letters that made no sense).

For these reasons I feared that the website was hacked or something insidious was going on. Crossing my fingers that this computer is fine. So far, so good. (whew) I had not seen BSOD screens since Windows 98, until yesterday.

I had the same experience and several times I was warned not to proceed...I backed out.

I'll post what I added previously to a couple of threads about this:

Those redirect messages weren't indicative of malicious software. They were SSL certificate errors, and some computers sensing a certificate problem might've reacted to protect the user.

Obviously, QVC uses a content delivery/distribution network (CDN) to provide access with numerous servers located across the country (one reason some people saw the runtime errors and others didn't).

It appears their servers are working now, but history tells us it's only a matter of time before the next problem shows up. I'm wondering when they'll start to care about the highly unprofessional image they present with such an unreliable website (not to mention the money they lost yesterday when the shopping site was unavailable).

Hi, Noel! Yes, I think they're too cheap. They've cut back on quality control in all areas. Maybe they've become "penny wise and pound foolish."

For a retailer that so incessantly pushes computers, you really would think they'd strive for the best possible web presence available. Instead, it seems they're committed to mediocrity, sadly, across the board, from programming to product selection and beyond...

I'm not sure you realize it, but this happens with QVC also. It happened to me once, and I called CS. They said you can put it in your cart, but until you've actually checked out, the item is fair game. If it sells out and you haven't checked out, it will come back with a message saying "This item is no longer available"...

In hundreds of transactions, I've never had that happen on QVC. I've seen things sell out but what I've got in my cart has been safe. I've had things disappear at SHQ and HSN.

never had it happen to me either
