"Expired" eggs in fridge? Eat? How long is too long?

I dont necessarily throw food out according to the expiration date printed on it. Would you eat eggs that are four months past the date? Three months? Two months past? Just curious.

I've eaten eggs that are past the expiration date on the carton.  My test is to place the egg in water.  If it sinks to the bottom, it's okay.  If it floats, it's probably not okay since air has permeated the shell.

If I'm making food that others will eat, however, I always use fresh eggs; don't want to chance it.

No no no.......I am a spaz about expiration dates.   Especially with dairy products.

Not worth the risk IMO.

A few days past expiration date I have used and always been ok.  Beyond that no.

I've eaten yogurt a week past expiration without any problems. But eggs three months old, no way.

@ValuSkr   I was just going to post about the egg in water test.

From what I have always read - 2 to 3 weeks after the expirations/sell by date is ok.

Good suggestion.

For the cost of a carton of eggs why would you even risk it? Months past the.expiration date? Ridiculous.

my eggs are in an egg keeper and i dont know the expiration date.

i usually buy about two dozen at a time.

i just crack them into a tea cup.

believe me, if they are bad, you will know it right away by the look and the smell. if they look and smell good, then i use them.

Eggs at my house don't last long but I could go at least a month past the expiration.

Unless you eat them raw, it's safe if kept at proper temperature.
