I've seen this on FB recently. It's a way to chat with AI, a pretend friend I guess you'd call it - has anyone done this?

@BoopOMatic I have not pursued an AI friend, but I did find myself in a rather lengthy AI conversation. I had called a company with questions. AI tried to respond with an answer and would ask if that was the information I was seeking. I would say "No," and it would try again. After a failed third attempt it said I needed to speak to someone else. I was connected to a real person.

I have a heavy West Texas drawl. I think the computer could not understand my version of the English language. I only use touch responses when calling because most automated systems do not understand me. I think having an AI friend probably won't be in the cards for me.

I thought these forums were for venting, at least you've got real people at the other end, 🤣🤣

There are already AI companion programs that exist and are well received, but I am TOO afraid of the very notion of AI as a FRIEND!!!🥰 Thankfully, I have a dear friend❤ and family❤ I can turn to when I need to vent, but understand that sadly not everyone does.😔 I know it is here to stay, and that we are now intrinsicly linked to and dependent upon it, but the yet to be determined risks are still concerning to me.😊

I can see how this wiould be beneficial to some like shut-ins, the elderly, anyone especially lonely, etc, but I also wonder at what ULTIMATE cost. Less human to human interaction, AI addiction...🤔 Time will tell.😁

Re: "Chatting" with AI

[ Edited ]

@BoopOMatic No. I wouldn't ever. It's creepy not knowing who is responsible/who has programmed the AI on each particular site. If someone feels they need this, with all the messed-up people in this world and some of them programming AI, how would they even know if they were actually out to help v hurt.  I love technology, but there are just too many stories about the internet and horrible end results, sadly.

@BoopOMatic   I'm not alone in my distrust of this new technology. i am steering clear of any AI involvement. I believe that not only is intrusive on your information (much more than even Facebook), but it's a dangerous use of technology.

Just sayin'   Be careful out there.

I think if you crave interaction, hunan conversation you could go to to your local senior center, office on aging, public library or YMCA.

If you can't get out, the reference librarian at your library may have suggestions.

While I live very rural and maybe with fewer options, I'm aware of two drop in, come have coffee meetups. One at a local donut shop and one at Mickey D's.

It's deeply concerning that device makers want you to substitute companionship for a device.

There have been numerous accounts of the lack of social skills in the Gen Z demo.

I just saw a Google news story 2 days ago that said some employers do not want to hire young people anymore because they lack the social skills necessary for workplace interaction.

Most of the blame for this problem has been placed on the social media and technology based communication that is the norm for these young people.

All of this  isolationist digital relating has made them uncomfortable with and  unprepared for face-to-face

human relationships.

Now we are encouraging AI friends and confidants?

When we finally perfect the robots to where they look and sound just like people we will have arrived at a point where real people act and sound just like robots.

I can’t think of a more blatant at data mining. And getting sympathy from a machine or computer doesn’t appeal the me in the slightest.
