Is it true that this is a cult? Looking to donate clothes.

Mixed reactions on the inter-web, many negative comments from former employees.

Charity Watch gives them an "F" rating.

They "sell" most donated clothing and use proceeds to fund its programs, aid in Africa and elsewhere.

Their Mission Statement is to save the earth by reducing clothing disposal,  but that's not what happens.

Most donated clothing ends up in a landfill,  domestically or internationally anyway, so my view is do what makes you feel comfortable.  I like to give what clothing I donate directly to homeless shelters, where they'll get a little extra use.

@goldensrbest  Is there a reason you cannot use a known entity like Purple Heart, Salvation Army or Goodwill? We also have churches in our area who take clothing donations.

In our area Goodwill charges to come out and pick up stuff. I'd rather donate somewhere else.

I donate to Big Sisters (they have a retail store but not close by)  .   One day I took 2 small bags of jeans and some tops to their donation site.  There were stacks of boxes up to the ceiling.   Bet they sell most of the clothing to bulk dealers.

Donate to The Salvation Army.  They do sell the clothing & other items that have been donated but that money is used to support the Army's Rehabilitation Centers- a place for drug/alcohol abusers can go at no cost to them.  The program is for 6 months, there are many rules to follow, the people in the program are required to work at the Army's warehouses to process the donations that eventually go to their Family Stores to sell.
