Apostrophes are flying before every s at the end of a word. I don't understand why English speakers have such a hard time discerning possessives from plurals.

I don't think they're being taught properly. IMO, it's a lot harder to teach grammar than it is to teach cursive, and that's being abandoned.
In addition, auto-correct functions are introducing all kinds of errors that people seem to blithely ignore, even when some of what they've written (or co-authored, since the device is also writing the message) makes no sense at all. I fully embrace the concept of language as ever-evolving, living, and plastic, but when communication takes a back seat to expression--and we're not talking art here--it makes for a depressing read.

I am neither apostrophe, nor punctuation police. To each his, or her, apostrophe own.😊

@MacDUFF sad they're throwing in the towel. but correcting all the mistakes would wear you down since no one apparently is taught contractions, possessives, etc, any more. it's up to us now!

I was taught by the "Sisters Mary" (I could diagram sentences in my sleep), and @MacDUFF was taught by Mrs. Hudson. Hooray to them and to Miss Dabareiner!

I also loved diagramming.

I’ll fully admit there is much I do not know.
Some years ago my sister gave me a nicely decorated wooden plaque for our new home. It’s a little larger than 3’ x 5” which says: It’s good to be home.
“It’s” did not have an apostrophe and my sister asked the person who made the plaque if she would please add what she knew I’d notice.
My sister used to teach high school English, btw. She’s pretty smart. 🙂
