I know Meryl won't give a hoot, but I must say that her opinions mean absolutely nothing to me. It's hardly a "dialogue" when one is espousing their opinions on TV, with no chance for a rebuttal. Sorry to see these shows become a forum for some "celebrity" to mouth off, rather than to show humility and thanks for the award just received.

Streep's rep refutes. i'd like to know how this business operates now. not sure whom to believe.
Her dresses always look sloppy and ill fitting. You know she is for the little people, right? She sounds like a Diva and spoiled brat to me.
What? "She is for the little people" ?
What does that even mean?

@Trix. The benefit to us is that some of these designer originals are offered as knock-offs at a reasonable price within the week.

The awards shows seem fake IMO. Borrowed clothes, borrowed jewels and accessories....necessary speeches to thank spouses who are loves of their lives (you'll soon read are separating), directors, folks who made movies, agents, & others I've never heard of.... It's just another night to strut egos. I stopped watching them all years ago.

@Lucky Charm wrote:A few groups representing handicapped people stated Streep was basically blowing smoke instead of saying anything substantial.
Their problem had more to do with the fact that Hollywood doesn't hire handicapped/disabled people to play the parts of handicapped/disabled people.
They would rather have an *actor* study the part, practice the movements/limitations, mimic the speech, etc. instead of hiring a physically challenged person to play the part (and perfectly).
This reminds me of the young man in the commercials during the campaign saying he couldn't vote for someone who made fun of another disabled (reporter?) man.
Does this young man realize what the other candidate would have chosen to do with him?
He may not have even had a chance.....
Oh please !!!! Contrary to what you seem to believe, acting is not easy and the entertainment industry DOES hire the physically challenged in great numbers. Most jobs in "Hollywood" are behind the camera, you know.
Your assumption that any handicapped person off the street can just take a few acting lessons and deliver great performances in a multi-million dollar film is ludicrous. Physically challenged people often have a tough enough time just getting through the day .... expecting that they can all act at the drop of a hat is ..... just mind boggling!

Fear and ignorance are a dangerous thing. Why should they not have the right like everyone else to voice their pov?
Maybe because as the saying goes "there's a time and a place." I don't tune in to an Awards show to be lectured on some actor's political viewpoint. Maybe a different venue would be more appropriate....and that goes for whatever side of the political aisle an actor is from.

May I suggest you check the site called "Twitter?" How about news conferences, rallies, news outlets, statements in general, etc.? To say there's no chance for rebuttal is more than misleading, its just not true. There is plenty of chance for rebuttal on both sides.
