I live in Eastern Massachusetts. We are anticipating blizzard conditions overnight. Could be between 2-4 inches an hour overnight.
Here's where I need your opinion !
I work in a supermarket ( have been there 12 years). There is a new store manager. He has been there about 2 months ! He does not know my attendance record. (I never call out nor did I ever miss a day due to weather)
I was getting very anxious about the storm so I decided to call out for tomorrow. I called at 11:30 A.M.
My boss is on vacation this week so I had to speak with the new store manager.
I gave him my full name and then he said how may I help you?
He had no idea who the heck I was !
Mind you we speak every morning and I wear a name tag !
Anyhoo, it wasn't until I said you know the 6 A.M. cashier....then he said oh ok !!!
He seemed very annoyed that I called out. I explained to him that I was concerned about the storm and traveling at that time on the morning. (I leave for work at 5:20 in the good weather)
I just don't think it's worth the hassle of shoveling out and making the trip at the height of the storm. Roads will be a mess ! It's all in the timing and the timing of this storm is not in my favor !
Do you think I am wrong. I love my job but, is it worth the risk and stress to be there for some jerk that needs bread or milk !
Can you tell I am feeling guilty ! Why am I?
My friend made it worse by saying that I should never have told him that I wasn't coming due to storm. She said I should have called in sick. Why lie ????
