Re: need suggestions from my friends

@hennypenny, I'd very much like to help you since I taught Foods and Advanced Foods where students took the test to be a lisenced chef.

If you have a Sams near you, get a $35.00 mambership for a year.  They have heavy weight bake sheets and great aluminum cookware that will last a lifetime.  I don't know how you cook, but you can contact me back and I'll be more than happy to help you set up your kitchen.

One thing I would suggest, and I feel our fantastic cooks here would agree, buy quality once, or bad items over and over and spend twice or three times that much.  They also have a fantastic cookware set that will last and last.  Look at Sams on line.

(I am still using insulated hand resturant SS cooking spoons that are 20 years old with no wear.  They were $4.00 each and do the task better than light weight grocery store variety which rust at the bolt in 6 months and have to be replaced.

Anodized Aluminum $149.95  (See my point?).

I bought my hard anodized pans from QVC when they were sold as  Technique. They are beautiful pans, and indestructable. These days everything seems to be flimsy.

Re: need suggestions from my friends

Henny, I've been replacing my older cookware with Scanpan pieces.  I get them at my local Sur La Table...and they are often on sale or I use coupons.  I love these pans!

I was in your area last week and shopped at your local store in the downtown area...it's a nice store and the employees were very helpful with what we needed.

Re: need suggestions from my friends

I don't buy sets anymore like I once did.  Most of my sauce pans are old Cooks Essentials hard anodized.  Then about 15 years ago I went to an All Clad warehouse sale and picked up some pieces I was lacking.  When I got a NuWave Induction, I just picked up a large T Fal fry pan.  I don't mind that I don't have matched pieces.  I just want quality pieces that meet my needs.

Hi @hennypenny

I got the Kirkland hard anodized pots and pans set about seven years ago.  They had wonderful reviews.

All these years and hard work later, they look like new.  Not a mar or mark on the inside or outside.   The weight is perfect imo, they cook well, I've never burned anything in them.

I have had many of my faves for decades:

--Stainless pots and pans, some with copper on bottoms

-- le creuset

-- and a seasoned cast-iron skillet that is perfection

I think half the battle is deciding what features you want and what you don't want.  I have a cooks essential set from early 2000.  It's still in really good condition.  My one request is it has to be light weight.

I own Calphalon non stick pots and pans and I love them.  Easy to wash and you can place them in the dishwasher.  Cat Very Happy

Re: need suggestions from my friends

I really like my two pieces of All Clad and I also like my cast iron frying pans.  However, what I use the most for stove-top cooking are the pots that I got from the Q over 20 years ago when they had the Sunday night cooking shows.  By that time of night, there was always a one-time only and I picked up several pots that I still use almost every day.  They are starting to show wear, but I think they will continue to work for me.  At one time, the QVC Outlet stores had a wonderful selection of cookware, but that seems to be declining since many of the stores are closing.

For baking, I have had my Corning French White pieces for almost 40 (yikes!) years and it looks like new and cleans like a dream.  I also like my Emile Henry and Polish Pottery.

The next time that I hear salt and ice together, it better be in a margarita!
