need help!/strange aol.com message

[ Edited ]

When I type in aol.com, I just started getting the message Edge: not found.   I am using an Acer chromebook and it uses the Chrome operating system.   I never tried downloading edge on it. I restarted the computer and got the same message, then I totally signed out and signed back in.  Same message.   I then just typed 'aol' and got back into my email account but when I want to read the aol news stories, I get the same message Edge: not found.    This is the first time this has happened.   Does anyone know what this is about and how to fix it? I appreciate any help.   Thank you.

I would like to be able to still read AOL news stories. I don't know what is going on with this message I keep getting.

Hi @newjersey

I just checked and the aol page is still there.  I am thinking what is happening to you is something that happens to me.

I type what I want in the browser bar, and it starts suggesting a specific website that may or may not be what I am looking for.  If I hit enter my browser sends me to that website.

So what i do is slow down, don't hit enter after I type, I FIRST look at what actually is highlighted, which may not be what i want.  I put the cursor in the bar and only hit enter when it states exactly what i want.

I am guessing your Acer has an Edge browser/search engine installed, and it is redirecting you in some way.

I am guessing you are using your Acer to reach this qvc website.  If not, have you been able to access any website?

Make sure your Chromebook has the current updates. Also, delete browsing data...cookies and history both for all time. Restart device.

If you don't know how to do those tasks then ask and I can show you.

I had no idea AOL was still around.  I wonder if Yahoo who is still viable.  Well I'll be, Google said it still a working service.

@SilleeMee   I overlooked that it was a chromebook, which begs the question, why would a chromebook be using an Edge browser?

So @newjersey I am at a loss here.  Maybe make sure the operating system is up to date.  Can you do that in the chromebook?  And what IS the browser that you are using for the internet?  I assumed it was Edge, but it must have been chrome?

@NYCLatinaMe

Microsoft Edge browser is available in the Google Play Store and it can be downloaded onto certain models of Chromebooks. How well it will work I don't know. I never considered loading it on my CB.

Right now I'm using my Acer CB and I have no problem accessing Aol dot com.

@monicakm

Cox Communications discontinued their email service, and switched their customers to YAHOO.     After my jumbled brain got used to it, I find it pretty easy to use.      di
