@KathyM23 wrote:I got an email supposely from the USPS regarding a delivery and the ending of the address was also cox.net. Wanted me to download to see the attachment. Of course I didn't do that. I am sure it is a scam.
@KathyM23 It definitely is a scam. It was also on the news. Anytime they want you to click on a link it is always a scam. I have gotten those emails supposedly from usps & ups. I always to directly to their website to check any deliveries that I may have coming.

@newjersey wrote:saying that my Social Security statement is now available for download. Is this a scam? It seems so. I have never received an email from Social Security about anything. It was written on a page with the Social Security seal on it, but the sender was from somebody from cox.net. What is this? Thanks for any replies.
This says it all: The sender was from somebody from cox.net. This is a phising scam, go directly to ssa.gov make sure not to click any links from the email and review your account to make sure everything is in order.
Report the email to the Social Security Office of the Inspector General (OIG) Hotline at 1-800-269-0271

If it's from cox.net, it's a scam.

I got something similar and ignored it, as it seemed very "spammy".
Frankly, the SS site itself is so security conscious that it has many barriers to one's own info. I can never get in there, let alone the spammers.

@CalminHeart Same here. I signed into my acct. and the statement was there. It said that my new amount for 2025 would be available in December. I think I recall the same thing happening last year. I thought the email was authentic.

Scam. SSA doesn't send emails like that.

@skatting44 I am, unfortunately, an expert in this area because I'm divorced for OVER 30 YEARS and I STILL am getting spam calls from debt collectors for debts he owed back then. I've had no contact with him for over 25 YEARS.
I looked into this matter and was told NEVER TO ANSWER any calls from #'s that I don't recognize. Since then, I also practice that advice.
Sometimes, the spammers leave a VM. At the beginning of this odyssey, I listened to a few of them and when they mentioned his name, I quickly deleted the VM.
Today, I have already received 2 calls that I presume are still trying to hunt him down; however, now I simply block the call and delete the VM automatically.
I understand that I'm on the scammer's radar because no matter HOW LONG I am divorced HIS CREDIT REPORT still includes my name.
I called all the credit bureaus and was informed there is no way to sever his name from mine so I'm stuck.
