Fifty countries are currently mandating masks. I wonder what makes some people in this country think they're so special. Unless you can't wear one for medical reasons.

I don't get it. We have no vaccine, no truly healing medicine, and yet people and state governments ignore the little that we CAN do. Wearing a mask and keeping one's distance are not terribly challenging behaviors. I cannot understand why so many people find this too difficult to follow. We are paying a terribly dear price for our foolish behavior.

Our men and women in uniform fought and died so that Americans didn't have to wear masks during a Pandemic.

Me?  Not serious?

(You have read that the argument many make for not wearing a mask is that they are FREE, haven't you?)

Yes, that's exactly what's going on, even here where masks are required at grocery stores/retailers: signs are posted that masks are required, but there's no enforcement--nor will there be.

People in grocery stores are pulling masks under their noses, letting them hang, or removing them altogether once they're in the store. (A few walk right in sans mask.) The stores rely on most people complying, and clerks (or even store managers) aren't ejecting customers.

What's even more troubling, is what was predicted: the false sense of security, and people constantly touching those masks. And that's what's happening.

I was in the Wegmans sub line a couple of days ago, and everyone is outfitted there with those thick, blue gloves. When I saw one of the workers touching his mask, then touching [to open] the food containers, then the sandwich contents (slices of cheese, cold cuts, etc.) with those filthy gloves, I wanted to run out of the store, screaming. Instead, I just exited the sub line.

Wegmans protocol used to be that workers donned new, disposable gloves for each  sub customer. Apparently, that protocol has now been supplanted by those thick gloves, which even some cashiers are wearing. Yes, they're touching the grocery items, touched by everyone else who's been touching their masks.  Even the cashiers can't keep their hands away from those masks, pulling them up, down, and otherwise adjusting them, transferring sweat, spittle, everyday germs, and gawd know what pathogens onto every item on that belt.

Gloves and masks are petri dishes. Yyyuuuck.

The mask mandate means nothing if it isn’t enforced. I am shocked at the number of selfish and clueless people who still go into stores and other places with no mask and no concept or care about social distancing. We don’t go out very much at all right now, but if we do we always have a mask and hand sanitizer with us. Wearing a mask is an IQ test. Lots of people are failing it! Okay...I feel better now.....

@happycat    All of the employees in Walmart, grocery stores and pharmacies etc. wear masks. It's the customers who can't seem to follow the rules.

After the security guy got killed earlier for trying to enforce mask wearing at a store, I don't expect anyone else to try to enforce it.

I hope anyone who thinks wearing a mask has value or offers protection, will do so, whether it is required or not.  Others can do what they do.

For now I am considering it good manners to wear a mask and not cause anxiety to others.
