I think all cats go to heaven ( and other animals too) but cats are so special. I have 3 in heaven and 2 here.

My pets are my babies. Period. I've had cats I adored. Spent thousands on his care when he became ill. I have a dog that I've lost track of the thousands I have spent, and the amount continues to grow. Don't EVER tell me, "It's just a cat/dog". {#emotions_dlg.mad} They are my family. They are my world and there is nothing I would not do if it's within my power to help them. I will go without to make sure they are taken care of.

I pity those that do not get that.

I grew up with cats and one dog so even though I talk about a dog and birds, I remember the special love of a cat.

When my dog was 5 years old, I interviewed for another job (promotion) in my company. My current boss at the time was there when I lost my first dog and when I adopted this one. During the interview, the manager and supervisor wanted to know if I had anything to add (at the end of the interview).

I said yes as a matter of fact there is something that you should know. I am very responsible about scheduling time off, however I will leave in a minute and hopefully be able to let you know as I am walking out of the door, if I ever receive an emergency call regarding a family member. You need to be aware that family for me includes my dog Max.

I still got the job {#emotions_dlg.lol}

RCG, I get it, big time! I drive an older car (and that's conservative, although it's a great looking older car) because I've paid for a very nice used car in the last 3-1/2 years by making over 430 trips to the vet and several to the emergency hospitals, and I have a family member who wonders why I've made that choice. Too bad he will never know that love and connection. I've adored all my cats and dogs and spent thousands on them over the years, but I've developed a bond with this one that is somewhat unlike the others because of her long-term illness. I made the statement just the other day to someone that "I think I must have given birth to her 16 years ago", and that's just how I feel. I'm contemplating being without her before too long, and I almost can't stand it. I had planned for my retirement, but I hadn't planned for this. I'm thankful every time my car starts so I can take her to the vet. I will never stop taking care of her until there's nothing else that can be done (then I'll get a job if I have to!).

KittymomNC - I've been in your shoes and the fit is painful.

Bird Mama, good for you! I have to tell you a story, even though it's not about a cat, it's about a little miniature poodle I had many years ago. (But I would have done the same for my cats in a heartbeat!) My baby had developed a female infection, we had been to the vet, and nothing was fixing it. I left her one morning to go to work, and she was on the bed shivering. I was a single mom, so you can imagine the pressure. I kept thinking about her, couldn't find my boss, so I told someone to tell him I would take vacation time and would be back as soon as I could, with no other explanation.

I went home, took her to the vet, and they had to do an emergency surgery on her. She was 13 and had a heart problem, and I didn't know if she would make it, so I waited there until it was done and I knew she was okay. I went back to work, found my boss, and told him where I had been, and apologized for not telling him before I left. He made some light of the situation and just shrugged, and to this day I have no idea what he said, I just know I lit up! I told him if I had known without any doubt that I would be fired, I would have left anyway. That got his attention and he apologized. He never questioned me again whenever I had any kind of emergency.

People just don't realize what they're missing...{#emotions_dlg.wub}

I've had 7 Persians, a British Blue, an Exotic Shorthair, a Main Coon, and a couple American Alley cats. I've never seen a "justa" cat Perhaps I'll try that breed one day.
