truth be know irish.........it was like going back in time........I just kept seeing my dad, he's about my dad's age when my dad had his accident and left him in a chair..........when he said his parents moved out of state and he stayed, I knew why he did.........he was going to make it on his own and it was also right then, I wanted to help him get that done.........weird how life plays out.........you never escape your beginnings.....................................raven
Wow Raven, I didn't know that about your dad. I can see this is personal for you. I really believe the universe puts us on paths for different reasons and it sounds like the universe definitely wanted you here because you have an understanding of his situation that a lot of people would not. Good luck!!!!

I think this is a good learning opportunity for you Raven. Yes, arranging the sink where it is more accessible can be done. You will touch someone's life in a very good way.

yeah, my dad was in a car accident at 24 and left paralyzed from the waist down.....a year later had to have his right leg amputated........gaseous gangrene had set in......they wanted to amputate right after the accident.........he wouldn't allow it, said he wanted to present the "image of a full dad, to his girls"..........a year later, his body told him no ya aren't and the leg had to go......both my sister and I were under two at the time of the accident...........most of my early memories of my dad are a white handkerchief waving from the fourth floor of a hospital, while my sister and I stood on the sidewalk, dressed in our Sunday finest, waving at the handkerchief............kids under 12 weren't allowed into the hospital............he had so many operations, my grandmother lost count, one year there were 7.............so....I grew up with wheelchairs and all the obstacles they face...........we lived it...........he died at 32, I was 9..........but his determination to live a normal life, BTW, he drove a car, 3 speed on the column long before there was any such thing or it was even allowed.........he designed it and my grandfather and he built the apparatus that made driving that car possible.............I come from a long line of people that faced challenges but managed to "git er' done" as my friend Gooday would say.......................................raven

I did when my sister's home had to be altered to accommodate her needs (ramps, chair lift for stairs, etc.). If he is on Medicare, Disability, or there is a group associated with his particular handicap, you can begin with them.
Good luck!
Oh! That's right. I know in our state Medicaid will help you change your bathroom into a handicapped safe one. Your state might do that for kitchens?
Go online and search your state website for things that are available for people with disabilities by the state.
Is the young man a veteran? There is bound to be money out there if he is a vet. Like wounded warrier or something.
I'm going to keep thinking about this....
GOOD FOR YOU raven. You have a wonderful heart.

Raven, go for it! I think you can help him get the kitchen he needs. Sometimes we are presented with a difficult problem that we think we cannot accomplish. I think you are being given a very important task that may lead you to other speciality work for others who are disabled. Think about it, you are being handed lemons and you can decide if you want to make lemonade and share it with everyone. I also think the craftsmen you ask to help will feel some pride in working for this young man. Most people want to help others who are in need.
What a Christmas present!
Please keep us updated.

I don't think it will lead to me doing another specialty work for others...........not sure I would want it to either...........we'll just say i'm paying back a cosmic debt.....................................raven

It can be done and raven it is awesome that you have championed this effort. I'm sure you will find a way.
Did his parents move away and leave him to fend for himself in this home? That's sad.
They are remodeling homes for our disabled vets who are coming home in wheelchairs with missing limbs, etc.
You are a wonderful person with a big heart! ![]()
