Re: is this crazy.........or can it be done

There are organizations that can be contacted for funding to help make living spaces handicap or ADA compliant. I would reach out to them for financial assistance. I did when my sister's home had to be altered to accommodate her needs (ramps, chair lift for stairs, etc.). If he is on Medicare, Disability, or there is a group associated with his particular handicap, you can begin with them.

Good luck!

Is there a Habitat for Humanity ReStore where you are? Usually the stores around here have new cabinets and stock, plumbing fixtures etc. Sure would be cheaper to use and/or adapt what they can supply.

the adapt would be the best bet.........just won't know till I get to his house to check out what he has if it's doable.........wall cabinets, that's easy we just drop down the existing cabinets...........it's the base cabinets, with the ADA toe kick compliant that is the big issue........not to mention the depth, pull outs would have to be added to his existing cabinets to make the accessible and that's AFTER we modify the box/toe kick.......by that time, you've rebuilt the whole box, might as well go with new cabinets.............................raven

I first contacted the local organization that supported people with her specific disability. I also did some Google searches for additional ideas:

Yes, it is a crazy idea! Crazy awesome, crazy generous and crazy big hearted. I love that his situation made you reach out to all the vendors and installers and try to help. I really hope this all comes together and you can turn this crazy idea into a reality.
