Re: how Subway is doing with their new menu

Pre gluten free, I'd get the tuna with olives, lettuce and onions or a meatball sub.  However, for some reason, the aroma of the bread baking/heating when i walked through the door smelled awful to me and I couldn't wait to leave.

The sub was good but I could never have eaten in there, always takeout.

Years ago, I used to eat Blimpie sandwiches in my neck of the woods.  I loved them.  They were delish.  I never knew what happened to that chain of sandwich shops.  Then Subway came through and everyone thought it was better.  I preferred Blimpie's.  I did eat Subway once in a while when I worked, but not much.  I preferred going to a deli to buy from the salad bar.

I don't eat those kinds of deli meats.  Too much sodium, too many chemicals and not so good for you stuff in the processed meat.

I guess BLIMPIE must be making a comeback.......they are opening one about 10 miles from where I live. In the BRONX there are 3 of them.......we used to like them too.....

Interesting -the History Channel has several series  and one is titled "The Food that Made America".

Subway and Blimpie's  are included in one episode.

Re: how Subway is doing with their new menu

I had a subway sandwich for lunch today- it was awful. The taste was mediocre at best, but the presentation of the sandwich looked like a 2 year old assembled it. It was drenched in sauce. I guess nobody cares anymore about doing a good job anyway.  Unfortunately in my area, subway is the only option for a sandwich shop.

@gertrudecloset   Agree and well aware of your comment...which is why it is a rare emergency food.  The amount of veggies is a good thing....but commercial bread is not a staple for us.  We recently had one due to work conditions, but haven't had in about seven years thinking back. it's not what you do rarely, but what you do 99% of the time.  Just giving an option, if caught in an emergency and usually we just don't eat until we can get home.   I agree with your comment, eating out is not the best choice.

Just trying to give a healthier option at Subway, which was @Group 5 minus 1 's question.

@songbirdI have often said that when Fred DeLuca (the Founder) died he took the chain with him.

You know, I've never tasted a Blimpie.  I didn't know it was a chain.  We don't have them here. I checked and there were two of them.  One that closed and the only one left if downtown which I never go anyway.  I take it that they are similar to Subway?  Instead of that, we have something called Jersey Mike.  That I have tasted (once) and I liked.

If you want a halfway decent (or just okay) Subway sub, you should order double the meat on it

We still have a Blimpie Base in my neighborhood. I’ve always loved them & still do. Never tried Subway
