Well said, Gretta. I can't believe the FNC spin. Well, yes I can. I also believe the feds were quietly working behind the scenes to get him out.

Gretta, you make excellent points. If someone entered this country or Canada with weapons, they would have been arrested, and held. No amount of outside pressure would have influenced LE to release him.

Of course they were. The man is sick from his war experiences. That's our responsibility.
I find it amusing that the authority of the US government and its laws MUST be respected by foreigners in our country, but it's a different story when we are in someone else's country. Then, we should be able to say "we didn't know" and have them send us home.
p.s. Do you know if this story was dredged up to be a counterpoint to the POW we exchanged for the Gitmo detainees?

Thanks wookie. I just started learning about this story last week. Seems to me this is a simple case of an American breaking the law in a foreign country. There are others all over the world who sit in jail cells for committing crimes- are we crying over them?

I believe the US would do the same if a Mexican prisoner was in need of medical attention.
goodness, i would hope it would not take us 214 days to sort out a situation like this. his recounting of treatment of him and his mother by mexican jailers/authorities made me gulp. let's not forget he i believe is still a Marine reservist. also he had guns in his car because he was in the process of moving all his earthly possessions to San Diego to get PTSD treatment - and had no intention of crossing the border in his truck. he made a 9 1 1 call which is available to all to listen to contemporaneous with his crossing asking for help. as i said initially, the interview should be listened to. also Ed Royce, Rep from SoCal, did try to get his release so the government wasn't totally MIA.

Bill Richardson as well as Montel Williams also did a great deal. I can only speak for myself when I say Gov't I will not mince words and say Washington did nothing until others made it uncomfortable and embarrassing for them.
This was not a spin by FNC. As another poster keeps up the old rhetoric. That remark is so insulting and beyond old to my intelligence and that of other posters on here. If other networks were not so far up the backside of the Federal Gov't maybe this kid would of gotten out earlier.

Agree 100%. We had the 911 phone call. Immediately.

I don't know if any of you travel across the border but since I'm in San Diego we used to do that once in a while. I can say from my own experience that we were harassed a few times by Federales for no reason. They wanted money and you really have no choice except to give it to them. You give them ten or twenty bucks, they laugh and walk off.
Then things started to get really sketchy and we stopped going.
IMO there was wrong doing on both sides. The Marine shouldn't have been anywhere near the border with firearms but I guarantee you that on the Mexican side things were not 100% kosher either.
