How does payment by CC or debit cards work? Do they swipe it for you or run inside with your card? I've only experienced this once when $10 would fill up the tank and I had cash.

Also Oregon but allowed in some counties wih a certain # of population.

Last I hear a town in MA (I believe it was Weymouth) also did not allow "gas jockies" and one town in NY.

i DESPISE pumping gas.  i hate the oily gasoline stench, the yucky handles that click click and never start the gas flow,  and the lines of cars all jammed in.  i'll pay a bit more and drive 10 miles just to get to the one full service garage that still pumps.

Mobil stations i think have courtesy plastic gloves you can use so your manicure doesnt get wrecked. i wil go there in a pinch.

@proudlyfromNJ   I would gladly tip for full service.  When I moved from NJ I couldn't believe I had to pump my own gas, I was scared and still don't like doing it.

It seemed every HS boy I knew worked at a gas station at one time or another.   The older I get the more I would appreciate full service.

I would also like the option to tip for grocery curbside pickup.  Sit in warm car while my groceries are put in my car.

I haven't seen an attendant at a WV gas station for at least 15-20 years.   Most of our stations are BP, Exxon, Marathon, or Sheetz.

I  love not having to pump my own gas, it is a job for someone and I have never had a problem with it nor has anyone I know think it a problem.  In fact I do not know why when something has worked and continues to work has to change. I do not tip,

Re: gas station attendant

[ Edited ]

I wish I could find someone to pump my gas for me. I would tip them for that!

My hands are so messed up that it's so difficult for me to hold the pump handle let alone take off my gas cap...ugh.

Pumping gas isn't bad; I don't understand why some dislike it so much. It only takes a few minutes, and is not a safety concern if one is careful. I never had an issue doing it myself.

Woman SurprisedI have pumped my own gas since before I could drive. Why on this blessed earth would one not be allowed to pump gas?  Do you need a degree?  Is it beyond the skills of the common folk?

To me that's like saying you can't get your own coke or Icee or use a vending machine alone.  Do you have elevator opeators too?

Why would you want to lol.  I hate it. I do remember elevator operators.  I always thought that was cool.  They were always well dressed and wore white gloves.  Very nice.  I also remember going to department stores and there was a lady in every department to help you, especially lingerie.  I think all those things were nice.  I also remember if you purchased something there was always a gift wrapping section where you could pay for fancy wrap or you could get a courtesy wrap.  Nice days

@sunshine 919 I want to do it because I am not someone used to servants and getting my own gas is easy, quick, and if you use a tissue, paper towel, or disposable glove not at all dirty.  And nobody has my credit card but me.

Also, now that most gas is from large "plaza" type convenience store/gas station places, I can't see attendants out there.  So maybe it's more common if you have stand alone gas stations.

But really, even at convenience stores you have someone who puts gas in your car?  Do they do the windshield too?  Last time I saw a gift was in the early 1980's when we got a Dallas Cowboys glass in Dallas.
