I believe Oregon as well...unless it has changed. We lived there many years ago and I was certainly surprised when first realizing I was not allowed to pump my own gas. I kinda liked it. Ha!

Do you give a tip to a cashier for ringing up a sale & bagging it?

Woman SurprisedI have pumped my own gas since before I could drive. Why on this blessed earth would one not be allowed to pump gas?  Do you need a degree?  Is it beyond the skills of the common folk?

To me that's like saying you can't get your own coke or Icee or use a vending machine alone.  Do you have elevator opeators too?

@Sooner  It started in the forties for safety and never changed. I never in my life pumped gas and that's the way I like it. However it looks like it will be changing and putting  even more people out of work.

Nope, no tip from me.  No one ever tips me for anything I do.  And all these self-service places should start tipping me for doing a job that should be done by their employees.  Or how about a discount for checking myself out and bagging what I purchased?

  • Of course not.  I never pump my own gas.  Why would I tip someone for pumping gas?  Although I think way back in time, when I was a little kid, people did that. But they routinely wash the windshield and checked tires back then.  I was aware that there were states that didn't have self service pumps.

I never thought of that either, although I never thought of tipping at starbucks either and I don't.  I know that was off topic lol but the first time I saw a tip jar on a counter was at starbucks and I thought why lol However if I was in  Oregon or someplace now where they pump your gas I probably would because I hate doing it.  But I also remember when I was growing up the gas station attendant did everything, check oil, put oil in if you needed it, checked tires and put air in if you needed it and always wiped windshields and were very friendly.  The trouble with being old school you remember how simple and nice things use to be Smiley Happy and this was in Calif Smiley Happy  I guess all gas stations use to do it in every state

Why would you want to lol.  I hate it. I do remember elevator operators.  I always thought that was cool.  They were always well dressed and wore white gloves.  Very nice.  I also remember going to department stores and there was a lady in every department to help you, especially lingerie.  I think all those things were nice.  I also remember if you purchased something there was always a gift wrapping section where you could pay for fancy wrap or you could get a courtesy wrap.  Nice days
